Driveway Dillemma

Looking for some honest advice from anyone with experience!

We recently had our driveway redone using our existing old pavers. The contractors re-leveled everything and added polymeric sand, which already made a big difference. Now, they’re recommending we seal it with a penetrating matte sealant.

Here’s my dilemma:
Our pavers are quite old and have lost most of their original color, so I’m not really concerned about enhancing the color or shine. The contractors claim that sealing would still be beneficial to help keep the driveway cleaner and protect it from stains and dirt buildup.

Is this true, or are they just trying to upsell us on something we don’t really need at this point? I’d love to hear from anyone who’s sealed (or not sealed) older pavers and whether it made a difference. Appreciate any honest insights!

Sealing anything may slow down dirt adsorption or staining, it still needs to be cleaned off or it will stain.

Sealing may bring back some of the original color if they have faded due to exposure.

And add resealing to the maintenance list every couple years. You may experience blotching as well.

Parking older cars or trucks can leave oil stains so there's that...but it sounds like it has not a problem for you.

We had ours sealed this past year, but they weren't old pavers. The color does look more intense and I think they stay cleaner, specially from tire marks. You have to turn into part of our driveway and the garages so you can get tire marks, specially when work trucks/vans pull into our driveway.

The sealer is expensive and most of the cost of a quote. Not much labor involved as they just spray, or spread it on, and let dry for 48 hours.
