Jeri, I’m having a hard time telling OTN and Benny Lopez apart from pics. Their colors seem similar, is that right? Are there distinguishing features about the flower shapes or presentations?

They ARE very alike! I'd say OTN is more upright, and Benny is more arching. I think Benny's foliage is a bit better. I need to show the foliage side-by-side, for comparison.

Benny's blooms tend to be larger. And I think it is darker in color (But both are a bit changeable). Benny shows a pale reverse more noticeably.

@jerijen, hmf indicates that OTN has many more petals than BL, but from pics, it that BL has just as many. You mentioned that BL has better foliage, does this mean that BL is more disease resistant than OTN? Thank you for sharing; I thought to grow BL because of its bush shape, but I also like many petaled look. If you were to grow just one, given your deep experience with both, which would it be and why?

Peraonlly, I think botht are many petalled -- Oh, maybe Benny has more? A little more? The leaves have a different shape (I'm going to post photos). If I had to grow just one? Suicide. I couldn't do that. FWIW, Benny's a bit more spready. OTN's a bit bit more upright, but not rigidly upright.

I think Benny's leaves are more rounded, and IMHO, they are SLIGHTLY more disease resistand than those of OTN. Both are great, 90% of the time, though.

@jerijen, Spoken like a professional enabler! Haha! On a serious note, the leaves of both are very similar. The growth habit information is useful to use these varieties for certain effects in the garden. In another post, you wrote that BL’s bush shape frames the roses well. I am curious how you have found each to respond to pruning/shaping. I’ve notice on some rose varieties there can be cane dieback or the shape of the bush is coarse and unnatural. Could you comment on this aspect for BL and OTN?

Since we don't do much of that any more (we are in our 80's) I can't be much help there. But I've not seen any sign that they want to do a lot of dying back when anything IS cut.
