Root Correction When Plant is stressed

last year
last modified: last year

I have a new JM acquisition...I knew it needed root correction but I decided to just hold it for one year, to let it do it's thing and then root correction come post dormancy next year.

It leafed out, started on a decline so I decided to lift and root wash it to see what I was working with. A 1G sold is a heavy dense heavy compacted JM plant that after full root wash, is a 4" liner pot profile in shape with nothing to tease out....it's that dense. Only thing I see is a few (roots) most likely from March-Now..

It's so dense, there is nothing to tease out. Because the plant is stressed (anywhere from leaves are straight up wilting to dying), I expect the canopy to be fully bare in 2 weeks or less

....

Cultivar is rare (haven't seen it anywhere else in the last 3 years anywhere- so I think it's still better just to leave the roots alone till dormancy to break out the rake and scissors....

And or someone here might say, it's still not full on summer heat....take a knife and just make a single score on the side and bottom.

I've repotted it and stuck in a full shade location for the remainder of the season.
