I rescued this rhododendron last summer that someone had yanked out of the ground and tossed into the woods. I took it home and planted it by my deck. It was stressed at first but made a comeback. This spring it has bloomed beautifully. I want to find one just like it to balance out the other side of the deck. I took pictures to a plant place today and asked if they had the same variety. Their rhodos are no longer in bloom, but an employee thought they were both PMJ's because my flower pics matched the ones on the tags. So I bought one.

Now that I have it home, I don't think they look alike at all. The leaves on the new plant look darker and thicker. The leaves on my rescue are smaller and lighter colored. I don't know much about rhododendrons. Are the leaves just darker because the plant is older and maybe my rescued plant leaves are just undersized? I'm thinking of returning it and hope to find a better match. What do you think? Are these different varieties? Does anyone know what variety my rescue plant might be?
