I don't mind your home not being chopped up by contrasting color -- it's nice. But I do love your idea of adding texture and interest to the siding under the porch via shakes, or if you can spare the 4" depth, stone veneer. Go bright on the door if you like.

I just want to say I love your home just the way it is now! I like the small contrast on the windows and the chair set is just so welcoming there. Nice landscaping, too.

its hard to change colors without residing,
you can paint garage door and front door,
or add some ornaments like window headers or shutters
but your house looks great.
if you really want to change - you can reside central area and upper gable, and porch area - these are separate areas that can be resided, and you can use there cedar shakes as well

What would you think about wrought iron rail on the porch? If so, Black?

Is your porch deep enough? Otherwise, it just seems like it would cut it off or something like that.

Hmm...How about just railing by step? We've had older folks or those with bad knees need a railing....How best to add that feature?

A railing I can be talked in to, and it seems it would work the best to the left of the steps.....small area, though. Maybe even wooden ones painted to match the trim??? I know what you mean by having guests come that want to be safe as they go up even a few steps.

Only a hand railing, so as not to close in the porch.

All your advice great! Thank you! We've decided on the cedar shake to give some texture and interest....Now! What color? Then what color would make the door pop? And what color for the "trim" around the windows? I like a "coastal" look and I like the barn red on other homes but a bit afraid of it for me.....Any ideas?!?
