*home office wall color ideas needed!

last month

Hi! I just had to swap out my office with the toy room since my kids are growing and need their own rooms. I painted this room recently and it did not turn out like i thought and i absolutely hate it. This room gets moderate sunlight so I was trying to pick something that would lighten the room a bit. I love my couch and new rug. The desk stays but the other pieces will be going out as we are still moving things around. PLEASE help me figure out what to do w these walls. Halp!

Did you want yellow but the yellow you used turned out to be too strong? Which color is it? If not yellow, then which direction do you want to go in?

I think the darker green in the leaves of the rug would look awesome. Or you could try a coral.

@kandrewspa it’s called champagne tickle. The walls were Gravity before and paining a warm tone on top of the cool tone gives it this nasty greenish undertones and it feels gross. I don’t think i want yellow anymore. Ideas?

@hellogardener yes i was also thinking that darker leaf green- but was trying to bounce sunlight off a light color. Maybe i just get more mirrors?

Removing your window treatments would definitely get more light i to the room.

The golden curtains are giving you a golden cast.

I would use blinds (IF you need them)

I like a color drenched office, everything painted, including all the doors and trim fireplace surround and even a couple pieces of furniture.

I would float the furniture rather than line the walls.

Put the desk between the windows so the natural light is on your face.

@Lyn Nielsen - yes the curtains are leftover from the toy room and are replaceable - it’s on the street side of the house in a busy street so i definitely need something. I loved your photo and idea. I could put my desk by the windows more. I wanted some floor space for yoga lol -

Suggest one of these, but in all of them definitely play up your beautiful rug.

    1. If you are wanting a light shade consider white walls, add color/interest with bold accessories and paint the mantle one of the colors in the rug.

    2. Choose any muted neutral shade (doesn’t have to be in the rug) and paint mantle white.

    3. Using dark colors doesn’t mean the room will be too dark. If worried, just do a focal wall. I don’t think you are afraid of color based on your choices, so have some fun and create a unique space. The ceilings are high so room can definitely handle color.

Before you choose a paint color, be sure to bring home test pots and cover as large an area as you can, so as to get a sense/feel. Suggest a very simple window treatment that has light control and provides privacy.

Knowing your exposure also helps in picking color. Undertone come out differently in different natural light.
