Lupine -- will I regret planting?

A nice neighbor gave us a lupine as a thank you gift, which I planted in my front garden. I think the variety is "Masterpiece." I've read they can be invasive. Will this spread vigorously? Do I need to be diligent about removing fading flowers before they go to seed?

I don't think it spreads all that rapidly. At least not in my area.

Im in zone 6b too and have never had a lupine survive the winter! Or selfseed.
