Travel Jewelry Bag

The post about travel makeup bag reminded me that I am always looking for a good travel jewelry bag and have yet to find something I like. My necklaces always get tangled. My earrings get separated. And my bangle braclets don't even fit.

Anyone have one they love?

I use those velvet ones that have different zippered compartments and a center velvet cylinder that snaps on and off for rings. The whole thing rolls up and is tied with attached cords. I have several of these but one is usually sufficient. WRT necklaces if its a chain and pendant I will put that into a tiny ziplock bag, and each pair of earrings is also in a tiny ziplock before going into one of the zippered areas of the jewelry roll.

Small plano box with self added felt lining.

I no longer wear jewelry, but when I travelled with necklaces I would thread one side through a small, cut off piece of a drinking straw. That prevented tangles. For earrings, I used to use a daily pill box with one pair in each section/day. I’ve never been a big jewelry wearing person so my low-rent methods met my needs.

I am a jewelry addict at home but when I travel, I go minimalist. Sometimes I just wear the same earrings 24/7 and bring a few necklaces, or vice versa. Anyway, what I use is an eyeglass case like this one. But bangles would not fit.

I have a bunch of eyeglass cases, they are great for travel, for jewelry, electronics accessories, even stationery supplies. The sleeve styles are good for pens and pencils.

I received this one as a christmas gift ... love how much it holds and how it keeps things organized in such a small space!

and then purchased the larger size for my sister and I when it was released this spring. This one is more than double than double the size. Probably more than I needed but sister raved about it after her last trip.

It appears that the smaller one is not in stock at Marla Aaron anymore-- the larger one is in stock on MZ Wallace.

The large one is not in stock either. But that's more than I would want to spend anyway. And don't necklaces get tangled in there?

I'm starting to think there isn't a perfect solution. This has caused me to travel with less jewelry on recent trips and that's probably not a bad thing.

I don't take a lot with me either. I like this because I can easily carry it in my purse - (8x6 when zipped) bangles will fit in the top zippered compartment. It has holes for 8 pair of earrings - I seldom take more than 2 or 3 pair.

and if I have a couple chains I use the straw trick like hhireno posted.

No, my necklaces dont get tangled -- I wouldnt have recommended it if it messed up my jewelry. They are held snug in the accordion and i suspect that is what keeps everything nice.

I have yet to find a jewelry case/carrier that worked for me until this one. I carry a lot of bracelets , necklaces and pendants with me and the accordion keeps them nice, untangled and organized.

I, too, had read the tip about using a straw to keep necklaces from tangling. I recently tried it and now I’m a convert.

I also use a large daily pill reminder for earrings. Sometimes I can get a pair in one section; sometimes I have to put one earring per section.

As a general rule, I do not wear rings when I travel.

I had a friend who was a minimalist packer before anyone knew about minimalist packing. She traveled with 2 sets of jewelry - one silver; one gold. Although I travel with much more than that, if truth be told, unless I am going to some event, that is probably enough jewelry.

I'm a jewelry minimalist and have an old Red Envelope (anyone remember them?) leather zip case that works just fine for me. Sort of looks like this:

Not perfect but works for me. I typically travel with my daily jewelry - stacking ring set, CZ studs, watch, and maybe my diamond solitare necklace or silver locket. If I get fancy with earrings or special necklace, they fit in this little case.

I too am normally a jewelry minimalist when we travel, except for maybe earrings. Of course there are always those times when I need more jewelry for some reason. I hated throwing everything into a single bag and hoping for the best. I did try the straw trick several times which works well, and did the pill holder thing. Then i found this little tri-fold gem from Bagsmart when I was looking for a new toiletry bag. I really like how it folds compactly and is very flat even when packed. I like the generous bag for bracelets and the place to hang necklaces and stow the pendants.

LOL yeah, I am NOT a minimalist with regards to jewelry when i travel -- well not always. Vacation is when I tend to pull out my favorite pieces. Also, I carry a lot of beaded bracelets and necklaces and they dont fit well in the flatter cases.

The larger pink size accordion case is probably overkill but sister loved it. I havent used it yet as my vac was postponed again.

I do hope they are restocked. I have what I need but I really like them and would likely give them as gifts to other nonminimalist travelers lol.

@maire_cate do you happen to have a link to yours? Or the brand name I can search for. I think something like that could work for me.

I wish I did because my DDIL would like one too. I've had it for 15 years or so - It's one my jeweler gave me. I did try looking online and found a few but they're pricey.

Levenger has a nice one on sale for $99. - it's leather and I'm sure mine isn't.

Aurate has one - again $78.

Lke the one Outside Playing posted - Bagsmart sells on A-zon and they have a nice selection -

Outside I really like the design and function of the one you posted. the large size would have been perfect for me to take on this trip instead of several smaller ones. It’s too late for this one but I am ordering it for future trips. Thank you for that suggestion!

Thank you @maire_cate. Several there that I like!

I of course am looking at these now and find it funny that even the smallish jewelry organizers have a spot for several rings. Like, 7 rings…does anyone bring a pile of rings on vacation?

I also suddenly remembered that I do have an actual jewelry travel box in the back of my closet that is pretty cute. I’ll have to pull it out.

“Like, 7 rings…does anyone bring a pile of rings on vacation?“

I might know someone who does that, Sue 🙄

  • yesterday

Sueb, I noticed the space for lots of rings too. It is a rare occasion when I take my good rings with me and when I do, I wear them the whole time. I only travel with costume jewelry.

My jewelry packing is not boujee at all. I have a bunch of ”pill pockets,” which are tiny ziplock bags. They are perfect for a pair of earrings each. Some smaller necklaces will fit into the bags, some I use the straw trick for. I have some flannel bags for pearls, larger necklaces, and bracelets. I have a narrow nylon Ikea packing cube (the term ”packing cube” distresses my literalness. None of them are cubes, most are rectangles) that I put all of the bits and bobs in. It perfectly fits in the well created by the handle on a suitcase. Absolutely nothing elegant about my jewelry packing, but it works for me.

Pill pockets below. I have similar, but bought at Walgreens.

I am with you on the rings, Sue. My norm is my wedding band and diamond, sometimes also with a sapphire and diamond eternrty band. But it seems like too much to wear more than that, unless I did not wear my wedding band and diamond. It's a shame because I have some very nice rings. I should give them to my DDs.

Generally, I only take costume jewelry on vacation, with the exception of my Cartier wedding band. If it's an active trip rather than an urban one, I don't even wear my diamond ring. I throw my costume jewelry in a little cosmetic bag from HB.

Y'all have me wanting this though, badly. Plus I have thought I *should* take good jewelry with me.

I ordered this one. Seems like my bangle bracelets will fit in the zipper pouch, and hopefully the necklaces won't get tangled. Super inexpensive so if it's not sufficient, no great loss.

I also do not bring rings other than what I wear. I actually used to but the knuckles on my right hand have gotten bigger and none of my rings for that hand fit. Which reminds me I want to take at least my favorite (a ruby and diamond ring DH designed) to be resized. I never seem to remember to take it with me when I'm near the jeweler. Thankfully that has not happened on my left hand and my wedding band and diamond still fit.

Bbstx, I used small bags made specifically for jewelry and i thought they worked fine--- sister was appalled when she saw how I carried my jewelry lol which is why she got me the black jewelry bag above.

I dont pack my jewelry in my checked or carry on bag, it travels with me in my larger travel purse.

  • yesterday

I wear an ”anniversary band” on left ring finger and one ring on right ring finger, which changes periodically but not daily. I wish I could wear more rings but it feels icky to me, like too bulky, to wear more than one ring per hand. It’s like a sensory thing. That is partly why I now wear a single band instead of engagement ring plus wedding band.

It occurs to me that the majority of our trips are active, casual vacations, which is why I pack minimal jewelry. I think we need to plan a trip to Paris or someplace where I can dress up a bit! Although that kind of packing stresses me out more; DH too.

  • yesterday

I've never felt comfortable leaving valuables in a hotel room safe so if I bring good pieces then I wear them. I had my diamond anniversary band changed from gold, prong set to platinum with shared prongs and now I wear it all the time. And as long as my jeweler checks it frequently I wear it in the pool. If we're traveling by car then I'll wear my engagement ring, eternity ring, plus a right hand ring and bring along a few necklaces and maybe 2 pair of earrings and a bracelet or two. But I keep the extra pieces in a small jewelry bag in my purse. My last 3 international flights I only wore the anniversary band and a few pieces of what I call "semi-good' pieces from Lagos.
