I know your drawing is a rough depiction, but I would do a door that matched the openness of the wall areas.

I can easily close my 13 ft tall outdoor curtains without a ladder! They are on a rail and slide very easily. A child could open/close them. No wand needed.

Why don't you show the view from inside the porch to the garage side, the side that you want to hide?

Nice renenderings of your project, I bet it will look great once the porch is built. You are getting some good suggestions. Making the garage look nicer and blend better helps. I think your curtian should go all the way up- partway up will look incomplete or a hack. Pay mind to your curtian rod and carriers- some make it easy to slide your curtian, some are not as great. If you want a more floaty action, use weights in the bottoms of your curtian- if you want it to be more solid, use clips along your verticals to keep the curtian in place. Palimpsests suggestions of door styles are more open, I think they work better than the ones in the original rendering.

Sorry but I see bit of garage and a really beautiful bunch of trees not sure that garage is all that horrible in the grand scheme . If youy want real help we need real pictures and the pic of the garage is not even showing what you will actuallty see so start there . Forget the fake stuff and post real pics if this whole area

I would get a really good track, number one. Something with minimal splices, probably custom. Or really you could do a traverse rod with a pulley. This would definitely be a custom installation too, because of the length.

I personally don't like to touch curtains or drapes to open and close them, because I don't want to wrinkle or crumple or dirty the leading edge, which is why I think a wand is a good idea. You would want them to be easily moved by hand, but something that would keep your hands off the fabric is good too. Plus a rod pulls by the hardware and at the top, not by the fabric and in the middle. Better physics and less stress on the fabric itself.

Good point about the wand palimpsest. Physics is our friend :)

The project just started. Footers get inspected Monday. I doubt I will ever slide the curtains open or closed, I would not want to look at my big garage or the driveway. But I will keep the wand in mind, I do find wands handy when in hotels that have them. We did go with open door style for the porch, mainly because we could not find doors that would match the barn doors. I would like to do barn door style garage doors, but it’s probably not in the budget anytime soon, since I would need 3 of them.

The crew worked 10 hour days the past 2 days in crazy heat. Showed up at 8 AM this morning to do finishing.

Yes, if I do curtains, they will be on the left side where the driveway and garage are in view. Plus the occasional pile of things needing to go to the dump.

Do something with the side of the garage instead of curtains in the screened in porch. We think of a garage, well, as a garage. But it is a standing building, so why not make it attractive?

Won’t work; it a 3 bay garage and you can see all three bays from the end of the porch. We are on a small farm, and have lots of farm-y things going on, and we place items that need to go to the dump at the end of the garage so it’s easy to load.

I need to get a fan, or 2 fans? The porch is 14’x20’, and I am thinking of maybe two 52 inch fans. The ceiling will be vaulted; how far off the ground should the fans be? The ceiling will have pot lights, so the fans don’t need lights. Any favorite or not good manufacturers?

I would not cover those windows. Why not erect a screen, trellis to block the view and leave the room open for the good views and air circulation? Since you will be sitting out there, it needn't be terribly tall to just block the garage from your view, while allowing you to view the trees in the distance.

Light linen curtains to block just the garage view will work just fine. You'll still have the views on the other 2 sides, as well as 2/3 of the side with the garage.

More progress. Lots of roofing the next couple days; house, garage, big barn, little barn and a shed. Once the electric is inspected they can finish the porch; hopefully next week.🎊

Getting close! Just need fixtures installed (lights, outlets and fan), gutters and my husband decided to get the built in grilling station after all; but that won’t start for a few weeks.

Need to choose stone and countertop for the grilling station. Attached is a picture of the proposed grilling station, the patio, and some stone choices. The patio is a busy color and pattern.

Should I go gray? Brownish? A lighter color? I think I want something uniform and consistent.

I’d keep it light—either the bottom stone or continue the patio material. The countertop shown works.

What about something like Levelor blinds? You would be able to raise and lower them with controls and adjust to let the light in when needed.

I'd use a stone that complements the patio pavers, something in the beige family.

Gloria, the pavers are way too thick and heavy to use as veneer.

If I went with a light stone, go really light or a bit more tan? First pic is the pavers and border next to the cream brick, then the oyster color stone, then the seashell color stone.

Getting close to the end; still waiting on the gutters and a couple little things. I put up a set of curtains to see how they look. My husband measured the height at 120” so I bought 120” long curtains. Remeasured today and it’s only 100”. Should I raise them up and go straight across the whole side, or leave them inset?

If you were thinking of opening and closing the drapes frequently, keep in mind that tab top drapes do not pull along a rod very easily. The gap at the top also appears a bit odd.

No to those curtains--the tab tops don't look good, and yes they are too long. Also I'd do white linen instead of orange/beige/yellow. But then again, any curtains are going to get dirty if you say you're on a working farm. Maybe shades? Or is it really impossible to plant something outside the porch? I see you have a large evergreen in the left corner.

Haven't looked at these exchanges in a while but I agree with @Diana Bier Interiors, LLC.

White or cream curtains would be a better choice of colour with your flooring, etc. (no orange/beige/yellow). I would hang the curtains higher across the top of all openings and just let them hang almost to the floor just so they don't touch. Grommets would be easier to move on the rod than tabs and would also look better. Also as suggested, plantings outside along the porch would look nice.

Well you either raise the rod or hem the curtains because the puddle on the floor is not looking great. Not sure what all the fuss on the color is about. The stark white is too bright IMHO. I do prefer the gromets to tabs, and the gromets slide nicely on a metal rod.

I did not like the tan tops either, but it was slim pickings wrt choices when you don’t go with white, and I wanted to stay away from brown. The color is actually beige and I was surprised at how yellow they were when they arrived. Ordered grommet tops in cream and they arrive Thursday. We will be landscaping once the new construction is finished, but the beds are too narrow for anything tall enough to hide the garage. Thanks you everyone for your recommendations.

Does the sofa need to be on that wall? What if you moved it and got some tall potted plants for that side? Or hanging planters outside? that would soften the look and reduce the focus on the garage.

Several people have suggested privacy screens/trellises just outside the screened openings that serve as windows behind the sofa. They would run parallel with the walkway, would not interfere with vehicles turning in and out of the garage, and if they're layered with plantings, would add a view of nature. Opaque or even sheer drapes that will remain closed seem to defeat the purpose of having floor to ceiling screened openings.

If you need to add another wood element, a trellis built over the BBQ grill could tie back to whatever stain/paint you select for the wood screen.

ETA: understanding there are screened openings rather than glass windows.

There is a slider into the house, and then doors going out into the patio opposite the couch. I have the dining table at the far end. We originally planned the porch just so we could dine outside without being bugged by bugs, then expanded it as far as the budget would allow to include additional seating.
