Some FFOs from Today and Yesterday

last month
last modified: last month

Here are some first flowers open on recent acquisitions that I have potted. These are phone photos. I don't have a photo editing program on my new laptop. Does anyone have a suggestion on a free photo editing program I could get?

Sultry Girls - My Iphone camera makes this one look redder than it really is. It looked more blue purple to my eye.

Browns Ferry Debutante - This was one I had but ran out of time to dig, so I got a new one from Sterrett Gardens.

Wow! Look on the buds on Browns Ferry-Red Kaboom looks to have potential. How great to have blooms!

Kate - Yes, it is great to have some daylilies open. Browns Ferry Debutante is supposed to have a high bud count. I never had more than 15 buds per scape in Nashville, but it wasn't planted in the best sun exposure.

Nice! I got Sultry Girls this year as a bonus plant. It bloomed yesterday, I think it has potential since it has not been on the ground long.

What happened to your old camera? Do you have a Mac or Windows?

Brown's Ferry Debutante is my favorite. I bet that's no surprise.........Maryl

Mantis - Both of my old Nikon cameras work fine, but I don't have a photo editing program to resize the photos. Houzz won't take photos of such large resolution that come straight out of the cameras. My old laptop that had Photoshop Elements died last summer, so I need to get a photo editing program that will resize. Until then, it will be phone camera pics from me. My current laptop is a Windows machine.

Sherry - We have had so much rain that I haven't been able to dig new beds or enlarge the beds I made last fall by very much. I've only gotten three of my recent additions in the ground. The rest are either potted or still soaking. Unfortunately rain is in the forecast for the next five days. I need four or five days at least for the soil to dry out before I can work it, but so far I haven't been able to get that many days between rains. I thought I would have all these planted by the end of May, but Mother Nature had other plans.

Nancy - How great that you got Sultry Girls as a bonus! I've wanted it since I saw that clump in Connie's garden last summer. The seedlings I got with it as a parent from Laura's seed were promising. Unfortunately I didn't have time or space to bring those. So I'm wanting to hybrdize with it.

Maryl - You do like a nice pink. Speaking of Browns Ferry, I did bring The Color of Wonderful with me, and it multiplied well here despite the very cold winter.

All of these daylilies are lovely. I love the watermarks.

It's been wet here too, but luckily our sandy soil means we can plant shortly after the rain.

Nan - You're lucky to have sandy soil. I had black, rich loam to plant in last fall, probably from 50 plus years of being amended as a vegetable garden. Now I'm digging in clay, and the many rains have waterlogged it. I did get a couple more planted this morning before the rain started at 10 - and they were both from you!

Julia - Thanks for your comment!

I am so glad your blooming has started. Kate and I are both too familiar with clay soil and you are right the working and amending is the only thing to help, but it takes time, and too much of it.

Debra, I am so enjoying the plants you have sent to me; so many beautiful additions to my garden..Pink Exrodenaire is such a pretty one and Canary Flush, Kiss of Paradise, Tart with a Heart which just keeps blooming Watermelon Summer is blooming well too, And Busy Being Fabulous is a perky fun one. Nile Princess is just so pretty; it is blooming nicely and It will be a favorite, I can tell that. And the others so many you have sent to me. Thank you.

Kay - I'm glad you like the daylilies I sent you. I especially loved Tart With a Heart, but it was tender even in Nashville's worst winters, so I didn't think it would survive here for long.

Well it had bloomed much more than I expected it to bloom. It has outdone Jewel of Jewels and it is the first year here for it.
