Yes Funky his/their music is so representative of a different time of my life, more troubled with Viet Nam, politics, a less carefree part of life.

One more. In 2014, BBC Music did a cover of God Only Knows featuring many artists including Brian Wilson. I wish I recognized more artists who participated. (My sister reminded me yesterday that God Only Knows is the song my nephew chose for the mother/groom dance at his wedding last year.)

I’ll have to admit, this one makes me tear up a little at the very end.

I've had a GOK earworm for a couple of days but I listened to it anyway - what's another day of that song running through my head! I know some of the artists, maybe half.

Loved that BBC video, bbstx. I’ve also had GOK running thru my mind the past several days. It always brings to mind the ending scenes in the movie ’Love Actually’ which almost always makes me tear up. That song and ’In My Room’ and many of their songs bring back so many memories.

I'm a smidge younger than some of you so the Beach Boys songs weren't imprinted on my brain as a kid. And I had forgotten all the lovely songs that Wilson wrote. It's sad how often that genius people live troubled lives.

Got a text from my son yesterday - "thanks mom for exposing me to the great musicians of your youth when I was young. They helped shape my musical taste. I have great memories of sitting in the bug comfy Mercury wagon in the way back, listening to Beach Boys, Beatles, Animals and of course Dick Biondi oldies 104.3.' Made my day.

He and Sly passed at the same age. 2 great talents gone from us, but their wonderful music lives on.

I understand he suffered with an abusive father, which certainly left its mark.

Funkyart, we found Summer of Soul in a give away box at our lake community about a month ago. We had no idea what it was, but thought it looked interesting. What a find!
