What pieces will go with this desk?

I’ve fallen in love with this desk but I’m having the hardest time trying to find pieces to go with it. I’d like a filing cabinet, minimum 2 drawers but would prefer 4, a stand/shelf/bookcase of some sort for my printer and other office items along with a rug. We are splitting the room, half office half game room. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions??

The desk is Italianate in style. It's an accent piece, not necessarily designed to get work done.

I'd repaint the walls a deeper color. That pale yellow color is not a good color for a game room.

All those dead heads in one location are creepy.

This is the closest I could find to match the desk.

Sorry but no way would I work in that space with those dead heads and thta desk needs a fab space not a games room . Is there a closet in the space ? If so IMO let the desk and a great chair standalone and all the mundane office stuff in a cloet and wireless . I will sy I cannot imagine a computer sitting on thta desk and I guess it matters how much room you need on the desk but there is little real work space .What do you mean excatly by game or are you referring the game on the walls what is the plan for the recliner ?Too little info and we need a to scale plan too. This chair and all the rest hiddin in a closet

Hi Theresa, is your husband a hunter or do you like collecting deer heads? Do you want all of the furniture to remain in that period? What is your style timeless, eclectic or equestrian?

is there a closet in the room?

the desk is a real focal point/feature, minus the mounts.

I would try to conceal the printer and all office storage.

I like that you are doing something different with the selection of that demilune desk. I think that as long as you get pieces in complementary brown stained wood, in traditional style, it will all come together.

These are all from Hooker Furniture:

Lateral file cabinets--I have similar and they hold a lot of files:

Here's a link to their website where you can see more:

The room is going to have an eclectic look what with all the deer, modern gaming chair, and sweet demilune desk. I'd lean into the eclectic even more with some vintage file cabinets. Then find an antique side table akin to your desk upon which to put the printer.

Can I ask what your line of work is that uses printer and paper files? I'm always curious about who does and does not still use them.

If you hunt for food, I don't get the concept of mounting the head of the animal that sacrificed it's life for your existence. Seems extremely disrespectful.

If you're mounting heads on the wall to keep score, that is another type of Psychopathy

Kendrah--sorry but those metal file cabinets don't belong in a home office--I have several and they are relegated to the basement. They hold files that I access only occasionally. Not attractive.

And Bev, is it really necessary to insult the OP in this manner? Just because any of us here on Houzz wouldn't mount animal heads on a wall doesn't mean that the OP is a psychopath or disrespectful. She didn't ask about them, she asked about furniture. Who are you to judge?

Funny, @Diana Bier Interiors, LLC! I once had a 16 drawer bank of those old army colored file cabinets and loved them. Placed them right in my living space. Beauty is in the eye of the trash picking beholder!

Very true, Kendrah--if it worked for you, great!

An office chair will need to be carefully selected to fit in the demilune space. I suggest you cut out a couple foamcore boards with outlines to match the desk dimensions, then prop them up on cardboard boxes so you can wheel in a desk chair to test the fit. RFM makes a variety of serious desk chairs for all day use.

I might consider getting a couple very plain metal lateral files of counter height with recessed pulls and having them sprayed the same color as the wall so they blend in.

I think a chair the style of the desk would be nice as long as it's comfortable for the amount of time you will be in it.

I grew up in an area where hunting was a part of the culture and many people did rely on hunting to supplement their winter meat supply. This may not be the case decades later, but hunting and processing the catch for food is still part of the culture. I never hunted but I recognize that hunting and taxidermy is completely acceptable in many areas of the country and not so much in others.

Big picture should be your first consideration, so measure the room and create a floor plan, allocating needed space for office vs games.

Room doesn’t look large and it sounds like storage and functionality are important to you so keep that in mind (the desk has neither). I’d be focussing on a practical work surface and configuration and wall unit with a built in desk with drawers and a cupboard would provide good storage and give more floor space for the games area.

If you’re looking for a more traditional feel, I’m sure there are lots of second hand antique desks and comfortable, fun chairs (that could be reupholstered to suit room).

Then think about the games side. Once what/where is decided on, only then consider rug (size/location), paint color, accessories/decor and window treatment.

My sister started with a Victorian era home and bought mostly Victorian furnishings. Over the years she has added more and more industrial pieces. If you think about history, the industrial age and Victorian age co-existed. The industrial revolution and steam powered engines were during the Victorian era.

Mixing the two makes sense. I love how the Victorian pieces add softness, richness, color and style to the hard edged industrial pipes and rough woods.

I am picturing your desk with dark metal cabinets and pipe shelving in both the office and the gaming area. Throw in a Victorian area rug and decorate with a few old beaten up ceiling tiles and old cameras and a beautiful Victorian ginger jar . . .

    Fun, eclectic, unique. . .

As soon as I saw the desk, my first thought was that you should be able to find something from Hooker furniture. I used Hooker furniture to furnish my law office when I made partner - the file drawers hold a lot and look really nice!

These are two pieces I had (+ a credenza and hutch + a separate writing desk + office visitor chairs + desk chair + chair for writing desk) - this was back in 2004 - I would furnish it differently today - not as ornate (although I've received many compliments on my office furniture - from other females).

Kendrah - I still use paper and files - profession = attorney. I don't go through as much paper as I used to - but I still prefer to do my first read through of a document sent by adverse counsel and write my edits on it for my assistant.

As a teacher of college accounting I also use less paper than I used to. But I still give paper exams because of cheating and also like to have important papers filed in a cabinet.

I think a point of consideration regarding whether or not you want to go all in to match the desk is going to be how the game room portion is furnished. If it's all this sort of Baroque-ish furniture, even the game room, maybe it should all be, but if not you may want to go eclectic.

Have you considered the downsides of the heavily ripped edge details around the top, stretchers and across the top?

I think particularly the ones that cross the top are going to potentially interfere with the function of the desk. They do make one with a flatter top...
