Very beautiful, in that lush, overblown way that I tend to swoon over. I wonder how it compares to Grandmother's Hat, although it seems that the foliage is not quite as gorgeous. Do you have more pics of BPR to post here, Jeri? This rose has been on my "want" list for future reference if I can ever overcome the squirrel problem.

Well, the two are quite different other than color, so I can't easily compare them. But BPR is a dead ringer for 'La Reine' -- OTHER THAN being a larger bloom than L.R., and disease-free, where L.R. rusts badly for me.

BPR's foliage is pretty perfect, too. Remember that this one has knocked around in a pot for a couple of years.

"Larger bloom" and "disease-free" works for me every time! I'm discovering also that roses in the pink-to-purple spectrum are my favorites. Yellow roses at this stage interest me a lot less, although even there this is more true of the modern roses than the older varieties.

Oh, there have been a few yellows I truly loved. I think there are just more in the pink range that best tolerate my conditions.

It is a lovely rose. I had one in California, and it did well for me there.

jjkOC, your post is so wonderfully positive that BPR is definitely in my future if rose growing is a possibility for me. My roses are not exactly prospering at the moment, but it's always so heartening to have future roses in mind that sound really wonderful and just exactly what I want to see in my garden.
