Noticed this on Nigrecens today when checking my pots ==>>

New leaves seem ok

Is the dreaded HVX or possible sun scald? (I think it’s the virus)

Well, good news!!🎉 I did send photos to Chris Wilson (from Hallsons Garden fame) and he replied early this morning that

the leaves both had cold damage and nothing else. New leaves looked fine too. I am so relieved!! The idea of digging out

another hosta was overwhelming. So lindalana, you were right! I am happy I waited rather than acting impulsively,

as I normally would. Ann, you and I are just seeing HVX everywhere now after our experiences this season. lol

debra..true 😂..any flaw and I'm worried..the one on the left is out..super easy job..didn't have any breaks for sap..small and easy to remove..I decided to leave the big one and the one on the right..they look better in person than in these pictures!..

Where we live it is pretty normal. Leaf was trying to unfurl got hit by frost and deformed. If the new leaf comes that way then it is a problem. Glad to hear Chris cleared your plant.

Off and on over the past 2 or 3 years I've noticed something somewhat akin to what you experienced, Deb. I have a 'Gooseberry Sunday' that has a seeming penchant for the odd bit of funkyness on one or two leaves, like what you see here.

It never gets more severe looking and while it shows contortion it doesn't show tissue collapse and that's why I haven't tossed it. I also noticed something unusual on one of my 'June's, something I've seen happen before with 'June' on one other specimen over the past few years and once they're fully leafed out there's nothing unusual to spot. It's not the distortion you see here but a discolouration not unlike ink-bleed but it disappears, something HVX induced ink-bleed will never do.

Here's a picture of it mid-May, pay attention to the leaf top-right-of-center. Now look at the same leaf in this picture from earlier today...

I have no explanation for this. While it does remind you of HVX ink-bleed, it should not become less noticeable as the season goes on....

Yes, Pieter, would agree with that. Sometimes I feel like I can’t wait as my yard is small, not all hostas have “social distancing”

Chris says. I’m also always worried I will brush past the suspicious hosta and then brush past another. One thing I got out

of Chris’s video this time was what he called distortion along the veins which is what I thought I was seeing. I also learned

that if the correct color is on the veins as in your June, then it’s not infected. I hope I got that right…… 🧐
