Nice haul! I've always admired crocosmia in bloom but have never grown them.

Those are lovely plants. I adore Crocosmia as much for itself as for it being the favorite of hummingbirds. Cephalaria gigantea has always been on my wish list. Lucky you.

Hellfire has got to be one of the best reds I have come across...longer in bloom and far better behaved than 'Lucifer' Hoping it looks reat with the giant golden oats. And, for mature garden ready plants for less than $8 a plant, fabulously grown, packed and delivered, is a tremendous bargain. I love this nursery (Dorset Perennials) for being true to their mission of keeping old, tried and tested varieties in commerce.

I admire that mission greatly. So many oldies but goodies have fallen out of favor, and hence commerce, for no other reason than...they're old. Capitalism and all. Don't get me wrong -- new cultivars can be a great thing (especially annuals), but so many new introductions are hot for a couple of years and then poof! they're gone too, usually because folks got wise to the fact it was a poor performer, or some other latest and greatest knocked it out of its place. But so many of the old tried-and-trues are time-tested ironhorses. it's a shame such a great number of them are nearly impossible, if not outright impossible, to find anymore.
