Multiples Are Beginning

This is the first day I've had several multiple blooms on several daylilies. Last night we had a severe thunderstorm and another shower early this morning, so the flowers are not perfectl.

Bubblegum Queen - I have three clumps of this planted in different places. This is the clump I planted in early September next to the house. Its scapes are 23-24 inches tall. The other two clumps were planted in October far away from the house. One clump has scapes 27 inches tall and the other that gets shaded out by a plant with taller foliage has scapes of only 20 inches. I would have bet the one planted next to the house would have the tallest scapes, but it doesn't. The registered height is 32 inches (and over the years in Nashville I had a few 34 and 36-inch scapes). I don't know how many years it will take to grow over 30 inches tall, since BQ sulks for a year or two after being divided or moved.

All American Chief had its ffo today with three blooms. Scapes are only 23-24 inches tall.

Sensational Heart had five blooms today, but these three were clustered together for a photo pose.

Glad you have multiple clumps og BQ. It has been one of the best in the garden this year and is still blooming. All American Chief’s color is always rich as is Sensational Heart.

All American Chief here too is shorter than usual. But it was divided two years ago and last year endured the terrible summer in the hot spot.

All American Chief is probably normal height here, at least 30" tall. So thrilled with this Debra, beautiful blooms. I kept telling myself I do not need more reds, but this just glows. Sensational Heart really is properly named.

Nancy G - All American Chief was one of the very last ones I planted at the end of the first week in November, so I'm not surprised that it's shorter this time. It does glow. I'm glad you like it. I think it's a super landscape plant - no matter how many reds you have.

Mantis - I wonder why your Chief is short. It's well established, isn't it?

Kate - I'm so glad to hear good things from you about Bubblegum Queen. I have a waiting list for it, but I didn't want to sell any this Spring since I didn't think the root system would be very good after planting late and in a drought.

Kay - As a lover of reds, you would like Sensational Heart. I'm happy that it hold its color better here in the north. This weekend will be the test for it as we will have temps in the 90s and with heat idices of more than 100.

All American Chief has that bright red/gold center I like. It's one of those "if I had room" daylilies.............Maryl

These are so pretty.. Sensational Heart is a nice form and I like the green throat.
