Storms and heat and humidity

last modified: 29 days ago

Storms yesterday put many scapes on the ground. Heat and humidity have moved in with a vengeance. I have not been able to weed in a month so please forgive grass and weeds.

Women Seeking Men has such sturdy scapes it was unscathed

Mountain Orchid did not fare as well. All scapes are on the ground or leaning

Stardust Dragon is low budded for the first time ever

Carnival in Mexico has leaning scapes

Boy Crazy has bloomed like ”crazy”

Molly Moonshine is just beginning

Isabelle Rose

Tahiti Sweetie is just beginning

Cabbage Butterfly is a huge bloom on short scapes this year

Flying Fox on first bloom (this is a Reimer)

Davi’s Dilemma with a miniature hibiscus

Thank Your Lucky Stars is just beginning

Crazy Kate-thanks to Kay for this one (can’t imagine why she thought of me!!)

Rambunctious Rosie-just beginning

Boy, I can identify with wind. Probably the same storm as you all brought us 60-70 MPH winds. Because the ground is soaked from our record breaking rain, I've seen mature trees pushed over like matchsticks in peoples yards. Fortunately most of my daylilies face east and the storms usually come out of the west during bloom season so no broken scapes just spotty faces from the rain.........You've got two that are sure pretty that seem to have survived the storm: Flying Fox is a nice deep purple, and I love the white mid ribs on Your Lucky Stars. One of my favorite UF daylily patterns. I could see me doing one like that if I had room..........Maryl

Maryl, the heat has become oppressive and will be like this for a while. Had sunshine today which steamed things up like a sauna. And as I write this, I am hearing thunder around our area. More rain coming!! I have some plants I need to put in the ground but it is just mud down several inches. Flying Fox is a huge round bloom a such a rich color. Thank Your Lucky Stars is being crowded by a shrub that has loved the rain. I think it would have been great this year if not for that! Stay cool!

I like them all but Tahiti Sweetie is always a favorite for me. Strong scapes, perfect blooms and increases great. I think your oppressive heat/humidity will be arriving here. No rain in our forecast for the next 7 days which is unusal. My garden will be going through rain withdrawal since we have had plenty for such a long time.

The scapes may be knocked down a bit, but Mountain Orchid has such pretty blooms that it's my favorite. I love the looks of Crazy Kate and hope mine will have blooms that pretty next year.

Debra, Mountain Orchid is always so pretty but is usually poorly budded. I think Crazy Kate will do well for both if us!

Julia, I think I first saw Tahiti Sweetie when you posted it in your New York garden. It’s a favorite of mine as well-I love all the different colors it shows. The heat is certainly oppressive. Not much gardening work going on!!

Wow, what a lot of beauties. Women Seeking Men is always a favorite, and it is nice that it is so sturdy. Davi’s Dilemma is quite beautiful, as is Crazy Kate. I love the dark rich color of Flying Fox. Too bad Mt. Orchid is lying down--it is so pretty.,

Brad, Women Seeking Men is always tall but it is even taller this season making it even more of a standout in the garden! Mountain Orchid does not have tall scapes so I was surprised to see it on the ground. The Davissons always do well here. AND usually multiply like crazy!! They demand their space in the gardens!!
