GUIDANCE: Re-Attaching Wood Transition Strip

I recently moved into a condo, and the transition piece in the doorway between the bathroom (tile/stone?) and hallway (hardwood) is not attached - it stays in place reasonably well but I'd like to fix it in place.

What steps do I need to follow, and what tools and materials would I need? I have no training, experience or materials, but am motivated to address this - assuming its do-able for a novice. Please let me know if any additional photos or information could be helpful.

Any general advice or specific guidance is super appreciated!

Specific Questions:

  • I'm assuming I'll need to remove the globs of the beige/white caulk from the edge of the tile, the space between the bathroom/hallway and from the back of the transition piece. What tool or material do I need to do this?
  • There also appears to a strip of red-ish caulk/glue also on the edge of the tile - do I need to get rid of that as well?
  • There's a lot of dust/dirt/filth in the gap, which I'd like to clear out more thoroughly. Would a damp paper towel do the trick, or is there any risk of causing damage?
  • The transition piece is flat. It will cover the gap, but won't fill it - is this a problem?
  • Do I only need to attach the transition piece to the tile, or should I also attach it to the door frame sides as well?
