The of the shape of the fireplace is beautiful. Let it speak for itself. Decorate the room well. No extra tile or faux brick here.

Some day when you have more money and time, revisit whether this fireplace needs anything at all.

You could arrange the tile in a frame and place it above the mantel. But I agree with Kendrah that it is very nice as is. What is going on in the rest of the room? Style? Color?

It looks great in the close up. Can you post more pictures so we can see how it relates to the rest of the space?

If it is an older house, and mostly original, then I would not mess with it, specially without the time/budget to do it properly.

Put a stack of wood in there to style it!

Nothing wrong with the simplicity of a plain white fireplace. I would NOT embellish it with anything but perhaps a wreath on the face of it & andirons to hold the wood inside the hearth.

Looks like the window coverings in the room need your attnetion more than the fireplace.

It looks like painted brick. I'd see if a professional could get most of the paint off.

Its a shame that someone has painted it, because, it is a very nice looking fireplace. It may cost a bit to get the paint removed, so for now, I would live with it like it is, keeping in mind, that someday, it needs to be stripped. Its a very nice feature in your house, just like it is.

Please leave the current fireplace just as it is.
No need for embellishments beyond the basic andirons and log holder.
Do take some time to look up that style and realise that less is more.
