Black or White Doors

I am struggling with what color doors to go with. Has anyone intermixed black and white doors throughout a home? My husband wants to do the main doors black in our new home we are building, and white doors on the interior doors for inside rooms (like closets and the owners bath and Jack and Jill bath), but I feel the mismatch will not look good. I also think we have too many doors to do all black too.

1). All black doors
2). All white doors
3). Intermixed black and white doors

Below is a picture of our doors and our plan. We are definitely doing a black double front door and we will have black windows and a lighter wood floor if that helps paint a visual. HELP!

As in all interior and exterior decor, all elements of the space need to be considered. Doors do not exist by themselves. There are many other things to consider - ceilings, walls, floors, furniture, style, etc. Please give us pictures of the space. In general, I like to have to doors match the wall color so there is a cohesive and unified space - otherwise, it looks chopped up.

door color depends on the look of the room they are in.

you could also have natural wood doors, stained other colors and left natural, too many options to guess without seeing the space.

If the front of your house faces West, I would think about the black door.

You can definitely do black exterior and white interior.

You can have a mix without it also being a hard and fast rule. The first floor powder room door doesn’t have to match the primary bedroom closet door just because you’ve decided interior doors are ___color. In a previous home my exit doors were black (as in front door, doors into bedrooms) and service doors were white (closet , bathroom) but I also had exceptions because it fit the room and not a rule I decided on. Laundry door was grey and my primary bathroom door was black.

If you have light walls and flooring + high ceilings, even if black doors are in close proximity, they won’t feel too heavy. They will also tie in nicely with your windows, so I’d choose black in the common areas.

Regarding INTERIOR bedroom doors, which will better suit the plans for the rooms overall? All the bedrooms should be the same color and be sure their style and hardware match the black doors.

My exterior front doors have glass in them and therefore are very different from the interiors doors and thus do not have to match in color or finish. My front doors are a dark mahogany inside and out, and I have white interior doors. Back doors are sliding glass, and the side door in the kitchen has a window in it, but it is otherwise similar to interior doors and is white, inside and out. I do not like doors to have different colors on different sides.

I’d post more pics to help get a true visual but it’s a new home we’re building and it’s not built yet. Thanks all.

If going black exterior doors make they are a good quality product as they will adsorb heat and fade fairly quickly. Poor mfr will obviously do this more, and and quicker. I would also reconsider the double door unless you have a very large overhang as they are inherent leakers.

IMO the entry door can be very different than the rest of the home . I do agree a confused mix is not ideal I would probably do all whitr interior and then if after all the stuff is in you think balck was better have them painted I think too soon to decide. If not too late please no J&J bathroom
