Help with bathroom beadboard mistake

We had beadboard installed throughout our bathroom when it was renovated a few years ago. We have a pedestal sink with virtually no space between it and the beadboard. Now, there is water damage to the damage along a lot of the length of the sink; damage is less than an inch higher than the sink. But it looks terrible. Could a good carpenter cut away a length of the beadboard and install a real backsplash there...or would that end up looking like an obvious repair.

We wanted to solve the problem by buying a new sink with a rim in the back to cover the damaged area but having no luck finding such a sink that is as long as the one we have now....27.5 inches long
