Yes, paint the door and trims without painting the wainscotting.

a rug in front of the door, just wide enough to cover the closet door, no need for a rug to fill the space.

to the right of the closet door you could add a small table with a bowl for keys, phone, and a slim mirror above OR stack two framed pieces of art.

A framed piece slim and tall to fit between the sconces.

I'd swap the sofa with the chairs. or face the sofa to the fireplace and add a sofa table behind to separate the living room from the entry. then blue chairs on either side of the fireplace.

It’s boring because you have so much neutral color, and some navy blue (which is a neutral) and very little pattern. More color, more pattern. Get an entry rug with navy blue and maybe some red- like the flowers outside.

I love neutrals, plus tomadded navy.

But if you are bored, change out the foyer rug to one with more color. It can still have the navy and cream, but maybe a sky blue thrown in.

I don’t mind the size but you can try smaller and see what you think.

I don't love carpeted stairs, but you could spice up the foyer with a more exciting runner/carpet on the stairs.

I don't think your entrance is boring at all. I think it just needs a more colorful, or at least a more interesting rug. If you like light neutrals, I don't think you'll be happy painting your door, etc. a dark color. I like neutrals,too, but I also like to have something pretty to go with the them. A beautiful rug at your entrance would make a huge difference. I would find a piece of art you love to replace the clock.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The reason the rug is as big as it is is because the builder put an ugly diamond shaped tile thing in the middle of the wood entryway floor, ugh.
