Building a Home Remodeling

Help with roofline for home addition

We are in the beginning stages of planning an addition and are trying to think through how to align the rooflines in a way that makes sense. The addition will extend back from the house about the length of the current deck. We are planning a walkout basement, first floor, and second floor. Currently thinking of a 4/12 pitch on the roof.

Could anyone mock up a roofline that would work for this plan?

Best to involve someone local -- builder/architect etc.

Someone needs to understand the structure of the house and your wants/requirements.

That same someone needs to understand massing and proportion and many other design qualities, like a local architect.

Pretty simple first option. If the addition is the width of existing rear, you can run the new addition ridgeline perpendicular to the existing. Run the roof slope and end in a gable. You'll have two valleys so rainwater off the total roof will require careful management. How wide you make the addition and how you place the new ridgeline in relation to the height of the existing one will determine the roof slope of the addition.
