you might want to check your cab sizes with the corresponding PULL out unit avail at rev a shelf or hafele. Yes ..these can be fitted in and the front attaches. there are various configurations available now. there is cost but if the factory finish is to your liking w the cabinets and these pull out configurations suit your needs it may be the kitchen will check your desires so as to avoid the heavier cost of a tear out.... these builders not offering drawers I thought were a dying breed but maybe w escalating costs they are back to standard cabinets . Just note if the cabinet will have that silly half shelf in the lower .... ugh on that...

examples.....the glides for these are on the bottom. if you want individual drawers inside the cabinet---- that involves glides on the sides and a carcass box built w sides [get the individual components] ...you can do that more extensive work on a few wider cabinets to make it worth the while. it may be complex or impossible to get individual fronts for each slide out box if he's not offering drawers to begin with......but a door opening and then the slide out carcass [like a drawer due to sides ] isnt too bad.

these are rollout TRAYS...still behind a cabinet door ....glides installed onto sides as opposed to chrome units [ one piece] installed into bottom of cabinet as above. study the offerings at hafele/ rev a shelf etc.

When my daughter remodeled her kitchen a few years ago, her contractor mistakenly put in 3 base cabinets that had a top drawer and below that doors and roll out shelves.

He had no problem changing out the doored portion of the cabinets to drawers. The countertop was installed prior to retrofitting the drawers.

I don’t have a picture from the same angle as the one above but if you zoom in you should be able to see the drawers just beyond the sink cabinet in this pic

It can be done.

If cabinets are overlay, then sure. Remove doors, screw drawer slides to cabinet sides, using spacer blocks or as needed. Order drawer boxes, made to the exact dimension. Install slides to drawer box, attach drawer face . . .

. . . well that might be an issue. Can you get drawer faces that match the cabinet but are of the sizes needed? You’ll want some short drawers but also some tall ones.

If you can get faces from the cabinet company, then great.

Otherwise, if cabinets are a standard Shaker or plain slab you can probably order faces of the dimensions needed that will match style-wise okay enough, though the finish of your cabinets could be harder to match exactly - maybe choose finish accordingly.

It’s a free kitchen, so I wouldn’t go crazy picky about how exact the match is - is the original paint on cabinets and the paint on the ordered drawer faces utterly indistinguishable, etc.

If the faces are too hard to get, you can always use pullouts behind the doors and accept the extra two seconds it takes to access the contents.

If cabinets are inset into a face frame, you’d need to add rails between drawer openings. Matching the finish probably more of a hassle than cutting and attaching the wood.

Paying a contractor to do that will cost more than the builder will upcharge you to do it from the factory. They have a minimum labor charge, and even if there are other things you add on, you will still pay more after.
