Try angling the rocking chair so that it faces the window and room, not the window and corner, by switching the ottoman with the chair.

Do you need additional places for the cats to lounge or sleep on?

Here is the rest of the room; the surfaces are covered because of the cats knocking stuff over so unfortunately that cannot change; don’t mind the mats and plushies, our kids move in if they get scared in the night.

We do have many spaces in the house for the cats, they also sleep in the bed and glider and our kids do have their own room.

Is there a reason why some of things in this room can't be stored in closets or in other parts of the house? I'm referring to the instruments, the collectables, the perfumes (?), etc?

Decluttering the room would help quite a bit. You then can slowly add things to the room as you find them on place like FB Marketplace or "Buy nothing/Sell nothing" - if you have one of those in your area. If you lived anywhere near me, I have a lot of extra stuff for bedrooms that I need to find a new home for/donate (combined two households into one).

The room has a nice amount of natural light and has the potential to look nice with just the decluttering + adding a few things.

With a baby and other children I get it, you are strapped for time, energy and $.

Looks like you need some great storage to clear the deck.

Having a space for everything makes for a serene space. With large, tall storage you can eliminate some of the other small pieces that clutter the room.

This is the primary bedroom; we are not storing the instruments because we use them almost daily and there’s not room anywhere else for them.

The collectibles we are using as a way to block the cats from jumping onto the surfaces and scattering or breaking things. They are effective although I agree they look junky; I am open to other solutions.

I don’t know that we have room for a large and tall storage closet as suggested? The dresser holds my husband’s clothes and the vanity table is where I get ready for the day.

I am very open to ideas for decluttering; I have no idea where to put most of this stuff as it’s mostly stuff we use daily or need and if it’s out of sight it ceases to exist to me

Get lidded baskets for the stuffed animals and blankets for when they are not in use. Put them at the end of the bed. Even rectangular laundry baskets would be improvement.

Buy some colorful construction paper and "mount" the kid's art on it and put it all on one wall. Having it spread all over the room in small groups is contributing to the cluttered look. Get the paper big enough so the construction paper is showing behind the artwork so it appears to look like a frame. Don't hang it too high.

I have lots of thoughts but the very most important - Is your TV hung on your wall or sitting on the dresser? If it is on the dresser, remove it, now. It is a serious risk to have small children and TVs on dressers that they can climb up on and tip the dresser over. My friend is a pediatrician and when she screens to ask parents if they use seat belts, she also screens to see if they have dressers and/or TVs that can topple over on and crush the kids.

Thank you, I didn’t think of that. Our older kids don’t climb furniture but with the baby getting bigger you’re right. I’ll look into getting a mounting kit for the tv.

Usually we have the kids move their stuff back to their room in the morning, we were just rushing today so it didn’t get done. Thank you for the ideas about their artwork as well.

Get ready in the bathroom like many do and the less STUFF in a small space the better You say this is the primary bedroom so not really understanding this whole issue. Is this a house or just some kinf of weird space you are renting I need info

This is a house that we own. The kids come in to sleep with us if they have nightmares or get scared in the night. We got them nap mats so they can come in and set up a space on the floor so they don’t wake us up crawling into the bed, then in the morning they move their stuff back to their room. This only happens a couple times a month and it works for us.

I don’t get ready in the bathroom for many reasons. This works for our family and is not something I am looking to change. I am only asking how best to arrange the furniture we have and declitter what can be decluttered.

If you can paint the 4-drawer chest in white like the vanity it would look better. And if you get the tall Ikea cabinet (or Wayfair also has similar ones) you'd be able to remove the corner shelf unit and store lots of your small items in the cabinet.

I like the guitars and small chest out of view like that. Are you sure you can't reduce the amount of your potions and lotions? Or stick some under a bathroom sink?

My husband likes this arrangement. What do you guys think?

Baskets should be your friend. Meaning - they are not that expensive and you can put lots of stuff in the right sized ones.

In addition you have too much stuff on one wall. No need to have the 3 shelf unit with the instruments. Those shelving units over the instruments can go in the bathroom and replaced with a piece of artwork.

Headboards make the bed look nicer - so consider getting one for your bed along with bedding.

That wall with the tv - ....again....too much stuff on that wall.

I know you love your children as we all do, but no need to have their art on every wall. Pick a wall and call it 'special' for their stuff.

Keep things simple and use a monochromatic color scheme. Here's some inspiration:

Not sure why the cats aren’t aloud to jump up on the tables. What’s the difference of the the cats laying up there or all the items, if the items can be put away then they have nothing to knock off.

Painting the blue dresser white would help it to blend in with your other white furniture.

Consider replacing the black shelf with a much taller white one, that has some closed door storage. Move it to where the black item is sitting on the floor. It would make your bed area look more open and neat.

Could you remove the oval mirror from its frame, and mount it on a wall? More open floor space will make your room look less cluttered.

Your blue chest, white dressing table and jewelry chest are too cramped together in the space you have moved them to. It looked better before.

Could you hang your guitars on the wall? I've seen arrangements where it makes an interesting wall display. Click here for some ideas. You could mount the TV on the center of the wall and then clear off the top of the (now-white) dresser because on the floor on one side. Then guitars around the TV, mounted on the wall.

Adding a fairly tall head board would make your room look much better. That wall is large, and the small items scattered on it are out of proportion. Or do a mock headboard with wallpaper, a large quilt hung over a rod etc.

I can move the shelves on the wall, and look into getting a headboard and the guitars hung up, those are great suggestions. I am receiving conflicting advice about the placement of the jewelry case and the vanity table so I am still not sure where to put them.

I am trying to get the whole house into a monochromatic colour scheme but we just don’t have the time or budget to refinish furniture right now. It is something I look forward to doing when we are able to.

The cats are allowed on the soft furniture like the beds, couches, and chairs, but not counters, tables or dressers; we have some decorations and keepsakes we like to keep out, that the cats will and have knocked over. We are sentimental people and enjoy having memory pieces where we can see them throughout the day. It’s the younger cats that do this, the ones I wasn’t able to train as well in this area because we also had babies and toddlers.

Your bed frame is a creamy white, and your sheets are bright white. It would look better if your sheets were a colour. Maybe a blue to go with your blue blanket and some of the other blue colours in the room. Or a beige neutral that looks good with your carpet colour.

For the amount of floor space it takes up, your triangular corner shelf doesn't really hold much. Consider replacing it with a narrow shelving unit along the side wall. Or just shelves from top to bottom. Your vanity would look better centered on the wall where it is now.
