Hybrid Hot Water Heaters, Recommendations

I’m thinking the home improvement energy tax deduction will be going away, or lessening. We’ve had a Geo Spring HWH since 2013. It initially worked well and made a noticiable reduction on our monthly electric bill. About 7 years in the compressor failed. It still worked but not in hybrid mode. I’m now looking to replace it before the end of the year and wonder what experiences others have had with theirs.

The Geo Springs is no longer being sold. I looks like my options are Rheem or A.O. Smith. Any info you care to share?

I just replaced my 13 year old Hybrid with a Rheem Hybrid from Home Depot.

Heater cost $1576, Installation $2505. Fed Tax Credit and Utility Rebate.

Installation cost is a ripoff...

I’d noticed that the installation cost had jumped up quite a bit. Can any of that be avoided? My last install was only a couple hundred. Now I’m seeing all these add ons that I’ve never used.

And I agree with Stax, that when swapping a hybrid for an electric OR a hybrid, the installation costs should be the similar as replacing an electric water heater. Anything else is a rip-off.

If they are replacing a gas water heater with a hybrid, and have to run a circuit, cap off the gas and vent, etc. then $2500 is still pricey, but a little more reasonable.

So maybe I’ll tell the installer to hook up the plumbing and eletric and I’ll take care of the rest.

Anyone else with an opinion of these two? The tax credit definitely looks to be going away after 2025 from what I read.
