Some July 4th Photos

Happy Independence Day! Although I'm still having some blooms on ffo and await openings on less than five, many of my daylilies have finished blooming.

Empire of Desire ffo

Born to Reign

Born to Reign X (Mayans' Dawn X The Ultimate Sacrifice) #2 - I posted the sibling to this one on my recent purple thread. This one is dark blood red with a lighter raspberry watermark. Bloom is 7 inches with a 32 inch scape.

$exy Samantha - Mother to many of my pretty pink seedlings. Unfortunately she doesn't like setting pods in Indiana.

$exy Samantha X Bubblegum Delicious #4 finally regained full color after the heatwave.

Dearest Valentine's flowers are much smaller than the 6 inches I got in Nashville. I would say the flowers are 5 inches or less this year with short scapes and low foliage. It was planted at the end of October. I hope it will improve next year.

Confessions of a Hemaholic X Entwined in the Vine

White Tooth - This was one of my mystery plants that didn't have a label. (I thought it would be Confessions of a Hemaholic or Hoopla.) I'm glad to have it since it was such a good parent.

Razor Sharp X SC Night Vision - This picture was from the end of a 93-degree day.

Michael Davisson is not doing well. It has only one very short scape out of four fans. The color is really pretty though. It's another that was planted in late October.

Born to Reign is a favorite of mine, and its offspring looks and sounds like a real winner. White Tooth looks good. Poor Michael, but sure pretty. I have a few plants that did not move last fall that only put up a scape or 2. Sword of the Spirit, Sparkling Giants, Faberge Easter, Westbourne Seafoam Candy and Thundercat in particular. A couple put out late scapes though.

Nancy - I'm hoping daylilies that have not scaped at all and those that have several fans that did not scape will scape later. I remember that you always liked Born to Reign. It's a reluctant pod setter, so I was lucky to get that one pod from it.

    Linda Beck

Buckleberry Ferry ffo - This hasn't been potted long, and I know this isn't the best flower. I just wanted to show Jan it did bloom.

I certainly hope that some of the $exy Samantha plants turn out to be vigorous, as it is a beautiful bloom. Born to Reign was never a favorite here, being constantly splotchy and slow to multiply. However, had I moved it, it might have performed better. I was glad to see it go. Linda Beck here has had nice blooms this year, but it is shorter.

Royal Invitation I think is one that caught my eye from you years ago. Looks more deep mauve in your photo then purple. I like it........Your seedling out of Razor Sharp has held up well in moderately high temperatures. I don't see any fading or slicking on the bloom at all...........Maryl

Nice group and hard to believe you have many done with blooms but you are in a new location so next season can be a different story. Your seedlings are always a high spot for me to see how they have done from one location to another. I have only one daylily ( Spring Mystique-planted in 2 different spots) that has not scaped. Not sure why but I keep checking.

Julia - Yes, after settling in next year they may scape on more fans and have more buds to last longer. The seedlings have done better with the move than most of the registered ones.

Maryl - Royal Invitation was never purple for me. It's a lavender, and with the recent heatwave, the color is washed out a bit. Photographing in full sun also tends to make the color lighter. The Razor Sharp seedling never slicks - not even in hundred-degree temps. It still looks nice at the end of most hot days.

Mantis - The $exy Samantha seedlings are doing better than I expected in the first year after the move. The one shown above is a dormant, and it doubled its fans and is taller here. The semi-evergreen and evergreen sibs did not increase in fans, but the evergreen has a better bud count here, perhaps because it gets better sun exposure. Born to Reign was splotchy on the first three blooms, but it is now throwing clean ones. It was probably the most vigorous of the Emmerichs I grew in Nashville. It's short here this year, but hardly any of my Emmerichs are doing well. Kingdom Without End, Soli Deo Gloria, and Magnify the Lord have not scaped. All Things to All Men and Open Door have a low scape count. Light of the World is short with few buds. On the plus side, Entwined in the Vine has more buds than I've ever seen on it, but it's growing in a place where I can't get a good photo of it. Faith That Moves Mountains, Royal Invitation, and Forty Days and Forty Nights are doing well.

I like the look of Royal Invitation and the color on Linda Beck. Born to Reign and seedling also show a great color. And if course the other seedlings look great.

Born to Reign and it's seedling are both gorgeous! $exy Samantha X Bubblegum Delicious #4 is also very pretty!

I like Razor Sharp X SC Night Vision. Dearest Valentine had its best year with many blooms although usually only one or two together but it rebloomed very well and just seemed to bloomed for a much loner time than before. $exy Samantha is a beauty and all the seedlings seem to take after mom.

Brad and Kate - Thanks for the comments on Born to Reign and its seedling!

Kay - Glad to know Dearest Valentine did well this year! I have an instant rebloom scape and a late scape coming on mine.

Soli Deo Gloria here has over 20 buds on its best scape. Amazing.

Mantis - Glad to see you are having a good year with Soli Deo Gloria. The best it ever did for me was 15 buds.
