How high should my headboard be on an 8ft ceiling.

The room is 13x12 and I'm afraid of "cutting the wall in half" with a 48" headboard. Rule of thirds has me nervious here.

what will you do on either side of the bed?

Night tables with a lamp and art a bit taller.

Look at the whole wall. Art work above the headboard will help delineate that cutting in half affect. My mattress is 24" high and my headboard is 50" high and with the paintings above it all looks very balanced.

I need to see your room to answer. I asume an 8' ceiling so all things need to be considered in this choice and without actual context I have no clue . Waht is your style to start. Show us your space and the beds your are considering and some hint as to the style for the space . The RULES are often broken to achieve something unique

How you accessorize the wall is key regarding diversion/breaking it up . Bring home a few options and test. If the furniture in room is heavy/bulky, combined with the dark headboard, that‘s where you may find an issue.
