I have coffee tables & side tables from Room & Board in a variety of top finishes but all of mine have stainless bases. I prefer round ( less leg / knee bumping for me ). Before buying anything, from whatever store, I would do a template of sizes/shapes using butcher paper or? Glad I did, I ended up ordering a larger size than I was initially thought. Btw, just a thought, think those chairs would look better brought much closer together. Good luck, looks like a nice light space.

Currently I have a 28” round glass table I’ve been using that I removed for the picture, but if I go with round I would increase the size. Was also considering oval because I like to put my feet up. Good idea about the butcher block paper. It is surprising how pieces that I would think are too big actually are the correct scale!

Jdail, yep, I sized up to a 42” round, looks perfect, the smaller would have looked skimpy ( & somehow cheaper , idk why ). Ovals good too, almost mentioned it, depending upon the room, round better in my room tho. Since you like to put your feet up have you thought about an upholstered ottoman? Probably not leather ( your sofa leather? )

Upholstered is a thought, but yeah the couch is faux keather so I’d have to pick another material.

Yes you need a bigger rug in the LR since those chairs have to move back in order to have any coffee table I like the idea of an oval, once the chairs are moved back on the new rug those chairs will need a table between them . I assume a TV is going above the sidbord so make sure there is no space between the top of the sidboard and the bottom of the TV since it will make the TV a bit high for proper viewing not to mention no one will have great seat for TV.

I agree with ottoman suggested in a fabric that would bring other color and texture into the room. A metal tray on top for drinks. Keep any metal tones complimentary. Glass /wood end tables in MCM style.

I have this one in my sunroom—natural marble, mid-century inspired. I have had it for a few years and still love it, though you can.’t really move it to vacuum.

When I’m redoing a room (just working on my master bedroom), before I start buying items, I like to get a sense of an outcome, so look on line for ideas/combinations.

A rug is a great place to start to define both color and room’s style and consider the shape/finish/style of the coffee table. Once they are in the room, it will be much easier to choose the rest.

So true, Maureen. I was going to hold off on the rug until after my senior dog is no longer with me but that makes sense to start there.

If you're planning to watch TV in this room, I'd place the TV on the staircase wall and a large canvas on the wall above the credenza

Move the furnishing items around as recommended in this layout. Move the lamp table with lamp to the other side of the sofa away from the kitchen and place the floor lamp closer to the kitchen

@jdail Travertine would be a beautiful choice here - it will break up the wood tones while keeping the warm, organic feel. For the rug, I’d consider an earthy olive, rust or muted terracotta and carry a little of that color into the artwork.
