I've been in kitchens with the skinny pull-out and I hate it, it's a bad design IMO.

I wouldn't do one for spices- I need a pantry for that, lol. But it can be a decent pull out space for storing things like cookie sheets, pizza stones, or cutting boards.

Those pull outs are a bad design. You can't see anything. Mine are in a drawer and larger jars are in an upper cabinet.

THey are really expensive, for horrible storage.

My parents have one; I don't like it at all. I have a vertical pull-out that I use for cutting boards and cookie trays. That works great since you don't need to crouch down to a bottom shelf to identify what you're grabbing -- you just see it from the top,

Is it a:

• 3" filler pullout or
• 3"W cabinet or
• cabinet with a 3" opening (maybe 4" to 6" wide?)?

Is there any other filler on that wall that could be added to the 3" or so of space?

In 2012, I did the skinny pullout spice cabinet and did not like it. Three years later, I replaced it with a top drawer, about the size of a utensil drawer, as shown by @chispa.

I like to arrange my spices in alphabetical order. With the narrow pullout drawer, I found that I would choose basil over thyme -- just to avoid bending down. I look for spices that come in a square container, as they fit better into the drawer.

No thanks. I like my top drawer instead. What you are talking about is going to become a think of the past.

I had that in my reno'd kitchen, and I hated it. Useless for storage and spices. If I'd known, I wouldn't have gotten it built in. My spices live in a kitchen cupboard, on various risers.

I like to reuse glass jars for spices, rather than continually buy new ones.

Regardless, for others:

I had two 6" pullouts flanking my cooktop in the Kitchen in my previous home. What I discovered is that while the concept/idea is good, the execution & reality are not. I ended up moving my spices to shelves (on risers) in an upper next to the rangehood. The problem is that accessing small items is too difficult, especially the bottom 2 shelves. If I had it to do over, I would have taken the two 6"W pullouts and 6" from my 30"W MW drawer cabinet and combined them into an 18" wide trash pullout. It's actually my biggest regret in that Kitchen. I did use items on the top couple of shelves b/c they were relatively easy to access, just not the bottom shelves.

Bottom line: Look at your layout and see if you can add those 3" to another cabinet instead of using either filler or filler pullout.

Note: I would not put damp towels on a rack in a filler pullout like the Rev-A-Shelf site shows - damp towels need plenty of air to circulate around them to dry and not get musty or mildew-y.

If you want to make use of that 3", look at a filler pullout with pegboard. I did a spice and a pegboard pullout in a previous kitchen. The spice pullout was useless for all but the smallest spice bottles. The pegboard was surprisingly useful for metal spoons, spatulas, tongs, skewers and more. I would get the pegboard again instead of a filler. I would not spend money on the spice pullout again.

This would be a ‘between-the-cabinet’ 3” pullout. If not installed it will be dead space. I also have drawer but it’s not big enough for everything

Anyone know where to find the pegboard pullout mentioned? Hate to waste the space (it can’t be absorbed by another cabinet)

I think mine was Revashelf. The pegboard was metal.

I always put my spices in an upper cabinet near my stove on turn tables and love it. One turn table had the first half of the alphabet and the other one has the second half. Easy to see everything and reach everything.

I have both a pull out (at our cottage) and a full drawer like Chipsa shows in our regular house. I far prefer the drawer set up but the pull out works ok for me. I store the larger items - cooking oils, restaurant size containers of certain spices, cartons of salt, etc. on the lower level, frequently used items on the top level.

The cottage kitchen was fully custom. Would I incorporate it again? No.

Do you need a step stool to reach upper cabinets. Hideaway Solutions makes a pull out step stool that might fit.

Stool is neat but space is not near uppers. Maybe I’ll just do filler strip

I guess we are the exeption, we have a three inch spice pullout between a corner cabinet and sink base and find it useful. We keep less used spices there and more frequently used ones on a shelf by the range.

It’s not as convenient as a drawer or lower shelf but if you can use the extra space it frees up its not hard to use.

Thinking we may give it a try and if we hate it we’ll just go back to filler. Since we’re not super reliant on it for spruce space it may become my husbands hot sauce pantry. He has dozen of those little bottles!
