I want to replace the carpet on the stairs an the bedroom/ bathroom hallway spaces in my 1938 built home. It needs to be small dog pet friendy.

Carlita, are you asking for assist with choosing replacement carpeting for the stairs shown? I'm sure all manufacturers offer "pet stain resistant" options. I would recommend a color that works with your decor and doesn't show traffic stains (low pile). You can find what you're looking for (if I understand the question accurately) in big box stores, small family owned businesses and even the TV companies like Empire. If I missed the mark, sorry!

Does your little dog have issues with "going" in the house? If that is the case, you should replace the carpet with some LVP + you can add area rugs + runner on the stairs (if the dog has issues adjusting to walking up and down stairs without carpet).

You can purchase rugs from Ruggable - they can be thrown in the washing machine if your dog has an accident. They are not unattractive rugs - they have MANY different styles/colors to choose from and will even help point you towards rugs specifically if you have pets (or kids). Pet friendly is a broad statement so what do you mean by that? I am sorry but the carpet you have now and that wallpaper are bad then there are tiles at the bottom of the stairs to thow into the mix. IMO a simple carpet no pattern ot variation on color for sure but the lighting is bad so hard to see even where you need carpet and I need to understand the pet friendly part . Is there actual good wood under the carpet on the stairs ? I need mor einfo. My mind tells me get rid of the wall paper but no idea of your home decor.

There are many articles online on pet-friendly carpets to choose from. I would recommend something in the beige tones (not pinkish) in a low pile for all the dark walls you have.

Above you question if the stairs should be covered full width or partial. Do you have nice wood stairs under the carpet? and what about the hallway, do you have hardwood flooring under the carpet?

Is there any chance there is hardwood under that carpet? That might change the suggestions and give you some additional options for a runner down the stairs.

Also, are you open to painting the wood paneling and baseboards? It looks like it has taken a beating over the years and it might transform the space to consider paint.

It may be an optical illusion, but those stairs look steep! I would make sure to talk to the carpet salesperson about ensuring the carpet isn't slick. Some lines of carpet are.

I would look for nylon carpet for stairs - pet or not. Nylon wears better than poly on such a high traffic area.

If your pet's nails snag on loop carpets, I would look for a cut, plush of frieze.

I would look for a carpet with a blend of tones/colors to help hide the dirt. Depending on the carpet thickness, you may need to have a door cut down. It does appear that a door has left rub marks on your current carpet.

I pulled up a corner and saw that there is a wood carpet frame and hardwood under the carpet and brittle underlay. it is the same wood as in the bedrooms which I pictured I think it is best to pull up the carpet take away the frame underneath ad the quarteround, then add a wool area runner. I want then to remove the wallpaper above the panelling and on the ceiling and paint those spaces. what do folks think? and what colour to use. I do not want to paint the panneling just wash / clean it.
