Ideas for Exterior

last year

Looking for all ideas.
My thoughts so far: Paint roof a dark grey or black. Add front porch with peaked rooftop at front door. Board and batten siding around newly added garage. Repaint wood siding - not sure what colour. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated.

" Paint roof a dark grey or black "

Big no on painting a roof, quickest way to shorten its lifespan. What type of material is the house siding currently? What color is the actual roof, appears to be a green white blend.

Why on earth, would you paint your roof. If its dirty, clean it, but, I most certainly would never paint a roof. The paint you have on your siding, doesnt go well at all with the roof. The entry cover would be a good idea, as long as you dont put too tall a roof on it. Then it all needs painting, a color that actually looks good on the house. I would also try to match the garage siding, to what you already have on the house. It all needs to blend, and should be all the same.

Painting a roof is waste on money. It won't last and then you'll have a mess. I drove past a bunch of small, 50s houses recently. Many of them had added porch roofs with peaks, all different additions by different owners at different times. Most looked lousy --- like tacked-on afterthoughts.

I'd focus on your door. Make a path to the driveway or garden. Paint it an interesting color. Widen the steps and flank them with some attractive shrubs.

I would not paint the house unless it needs it. Most houses need painting every 10 years, which will come soon enough. If the house does need repainting, I might go with a green. A pretty mint, perhaps. Forest green.

If you seach Houzz for green roofs, you see a lot of house that are brown, tan, or cream.

I should have clarified about the roof, I would not be using regular paint. I’ve read about Elastomeric Roof Coating, which is made to extend the life of the roof but also comes in a few different shades. Would you recommend not using this product?

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) advises against coating or painting asphalt roof shingles because it prevents proper drainage. Elastomeric coatings are unsuitable for places with heavy rain --- and we all get heavy rain these days. From your pic, you don't live in a desert.

So, no, I wouldn't recommend using that produce.

They were pretty much only used for rolled roofing roof's from what I recall and no not a good idea. They will not extend the life of a shingle roof.
