Exterior Renovation Guidance

We're getting ready to do some renovations to our exterior and are struggling with our decisions. We are replacing our windows and shutters and painting. Our house is from the early 1950s, and we're trying to give it a little more curb appeal. We had been leaning towards black windows double-hung windows and removing the railings, but are second-guessing ourselves. We've always liked black windows, even before they became popular, but would white be more appropriate? And we have no idea on color. We like the off-white but thought about going dark as well. Any ideas are appreciated.

Your house is situated in a dark area. I would use white windows. I also like the railings you have in front. They add a lot to the house. It bothers me a lot when someone removes their porch railings. Its so easy to step wrong and fall and break something, even if it is only a couple of inches drop.

White windows.

Remove railing.

The column on the right probably does not need to be there structurally, so I'd remove it.

Add trim across bottom of gable.

How long until the roof needs replacement?

The roof probably has another 5 years. We'd thought about replacing it at that time with a metal roof. I never thought about adding trim or removing that column. I like it. Would you stay white/off-white with the exterior. We will need to paint.
