Can you post an image of the roof color - silver/gray could mean almost anything. It will make a difference in the colors you choose.

Re: shutters - I'd remove them and not replace. And "beef up" your porch posts. Not knowing the roofing material color, I'd think about a soft grayish taupe for the siding, with white trim.

This is the type of roof we're thinking.

First thought is to invest in beefing up posts. The roof is much lighter and bluer than I thought it would be. It doesn't look good in the sample pic because the sizing is much more staurated than the roof. You need to go lighter on your siding than the room.

SW Gauntlet Gray and a galvanized standing seam roof would look great.

But I would not keep the trim white. The Texas stars are too much.

I agree. Nothing about your house says farm house. I would also toss the Texas stars, or put them around back, if you are really fond of them. Beef up the posts. If you keep the shutters, they should be a darker color. I would make that decision, once you have the house painted. You have to remove them, to paint them, and to paint the house, so see how you like the house without the shutters on it. I would definitely keep a screen door on the house, but, not the one you already have. Get a nice one that is a combination storm and screen, with the pull down screen on the top. It protects your door in the winter, and gives you screen with air for the warmer months. If you get one with a deadbolt type latch on it, it is also security, when you want the house door open, for light and air.

It's a great house. If the roof and siding don't need to be replaced, I'd probably paint the stars red and the shutters navy (or vice versa) and paint the cement porch. Or ditch the stars and get red adirondak chairs or a bistro set. If you do need to paint or reside, I'd go with a warm white. Keep the posts natural. That will look plenty rustic at far lower cost.

Rather than a farmhouse, think about an old-fashioned ranch house like you sometimes see in the rural West. With the deep overhang and metal roof I think you could really come up with an attractive, relaxed vibe. My brother has a long, low, one story home in a rural area with a rustic front door and deep patio -- many wood elements. He has some large potted plants, comfortable wood chairs and a few interesting treasures on display on the patio. He's focused on landscaping the areas around the house, including many fruit trees. His house is very cool -- I think yours could be too. Have fun with it.

einportlandor, I think I mispoke when I said "farmhouse" because what you have just described is an excellent description of what we are really aiming to do. I am definitly on board with beefing up the porch posts and thinking that they should be left natural or lightly stained rather than painted. BTW, this house is in rural TX although my profile probably still says NC. Thank you to all who have offered suggestions!

I actually like the white of the house. If you paint it a darker color you will get less reflected light in the house. A yes on making the posts more substantial. I don't mind that screen door, it goes with the rural feel of your home. There is something about the sound of a wooden screen door slamming shut I like that you don't get from a "modern" screen door. Maybe paint the screen door a color like barn red or a deep dark forest green maybe, use a high gloss. Definitely axe the green shutters. I would go with none or the unfinished cedar ones would be fine. You can probably DIY some simple shutters with some cedar planks. Definitely get some better porch furniture. Maybe wooded you can paint an interesting color, or to match the screen door.
