Less is more, improve height and weight variations and create a connection style wise. Start with removing all the items, decide what look you want - casual OR traditional.

Casual: don’t add anything in lower (2) baskets, bring home items to test and try only one lamp.

Traditional: use your vases/candlesticks, test new items (use your two lamps). No basket.

The top is already a little better. But for some reason you put all the objects at the same distance from each other. But they need to be grouped together. Take a photo as straight as possible in relation to the console and remove all the decor from it, except for the lamps and the wicker box at the bottom right. By the way, do you have another box like that?

As suggested, try to simplify a bit. Keep items in center below the mirror. Two baskets on the bottom and nothing else. In this first photo I’d replace the horse with something shorter.

Just suggestions here. What matters is if it looks good to YOU.

Try the rule of 3, when it comes to tabletop styling. Look at some of the previous suggestions, and you’ll how well it works. Different heights, different shapes. And I would leave the bottom shelf bare, too much going on -less is definitely more.

No fake flowers, what is the basket on the floor for , one lamp one vase nothing on the bottom unless used in that exct spot. A piece of art not a mirror that reflects really nothing to have to see rwice. I would do one taller lamp and a shoer fatter vase filled with real flowers or left empty except when you entertain.

I get the Southern charm styling. But the focus isn't directed.

have you tried putting a small lamp on the shelf? there is already a lot going on on the shelves.

Do you need light in that corner? a mirror? a framed piece would be more interesting.

IMO a 36" tall buffet lamp is a better choice for this console and mirror.

The basket below looks like it’s hanging over a bit…? If so, consider one that’s slightly less deep than the shelf.

I am not sure what Southern classic style is so I may be off here. I'd suggest removing at least half the items ,maybe 3/4 of them, including one lamp. (You could keep the lamp that is on the corner end so it lightens that area.) That is because I see the current look as overwhelming, meaning I cannot appreciate anything on there due to the crowding. My eye just wants to move past it as fast as it can.

I do like the idea that Design Fan posted. Note how few items there are--and yet how much more there is to appreiciate in that simple display simply because each item has enough room to demand its own attention. I found myself studying it for much longer as each piece was interesting and had sufficient space around it to draw my eye in to focus on one piece at a time.

You could use the one lamp on the top shelf along with perhaps three beloved coffee table books, a shorter decor item you love on top of those books, and perhaps a low bowl of colorful native flowers. I'd suggest leaving the bottom level empty.

Too much going on here. Hang the mirror slightly higher. Move the lamps in a smidge. Put a flat oval tray underneath the mirror with nothing on it. Be done.

Trying to use your items but there are just too many for the console. Your bouquet looks tired, a fresh bouquet is better but if artificial replace with white fresh looking flowers. You also need to replace the plant in wicker basket with a larger healthy looking one. Turn the mirror horizontally, remove one lamp, move the vase to the left instead of the lamp, find a nice catch-all plate of bowl, move the candlesticks keeping them together next to the lamp. Place a white throw in your wicker basket instead of a cushion

Do not turn the mirror when the ceilings are that high.

You and I suffer from the same affliction TMS (Too Much Stuff). We love it all!!!!! Edit, edit, edit. In the opinion of a native Alabamian raised on Southern Living, the lamps are just too dense i.e. lots of visual mass in the shade and lamp base and too Boho for the space. Everything else you have looks like it could have been inherited from your great uncle Robert who was single his whole live and had beautiful things you loved to stare at as a child. Channel that uncle's house in Homewood you could kill your parents for selling when he died (bless their hearts). Robert wouldn't have those lamps in that space but he would have the tall lamps @BeverlyFLADeziner posted. All the best to you and RIP those great uncles! Ask yourself, WWR do?

Other options... the one on the left shows a display several chinese vases since you seem to have a lot of those. A larger mirror in both options.

Agree…still too much. Suggest removing everything on top except the lamps and plant. Remove the sign below and center the vase and plate. Or, just have two matching baskets below and nothing else.

Go a step further and remove 3 items in that image - the two small items on the top right and the 1 small item on the bottom left. You have so much on display already on the built-ins on the wall perpendicular to this table.

Or go simpler and use a table without a bottom shelf.

I’m working now to pare everything down. Just did the bottom shelf so far however quick question first…. I thought things were supposed to be grouped in odds. Doesn’t the bottom left shelf look bad since it’s an even grouping?

NO to spray painting the mirror gold! For the paired down version I did above, I'm working with what you have. The 2 items on the bottom left balance with the basket on the right. I really recommend you remove 1 lamp and move the Chinese vase to the left and place a larger plant in it.

You have pretty things but you are adding too many things. The example of lisedv above is a good one. Try to do something like that. The table doesn't need to be filled end to end.

The lamps are too modern and too short imho.

I think this was pleasing to the eye.

lisedv’s one lamp looks good, along with her arrangements/groupings. You don’t want items lined up across from one end to the other. Having some open space is calming and nice.

If I start over from scratch, what would look best in terms of table accessories? I’ve tried all these arrangements and
something still feels off. Should I shop for 1 or 2 lamps? Buffet style (like tall and skinny) or a taller thicker base?

There are a multiple photos earlier in this thread that show examples of other tables/decor that may be helpful. You also need to look at the table decor in conjunction with the perpendicular built-ins that also have display items.

As you have a lot of displayed items nearby, another option is to remove this table altogether and add one large piece of art.

If you add photos of the entire room, you may receive more suggestions.

With your display cabinets on the right perhaps a bench & painting like below is something to consider.

I like lisedv’s example with the matching baskets on the bottom shelf. Agree with removing the candles. You might also try removing the small frame. My eye’s seeing too many items on that end of the table.

Either would work for me as long as you like them. Maybe look at some images online for ”console tables baskets underneath.”

You think these baskets are too light? My home is more traditional so I hope not too beachy looking.

With all the items on the shelves in your shelving unit I would say only ONE item centered on the top shelf of your console. Example a decorative elongated low profile bowl. No lamps, no anthing else, just the bowl, with your baskets on the bottom shelf. Remember less is more, and more elegant. The rest of your foyer is lovely.
