Design ideas needed for media wall

last year

Hi everyone! I’m planning to turn one of my living room walls into a media wall and would love your input. I'm trying to keep the budget reasonable, so nothing too expensive or high-end.
šŸ’” I had an idea to include a 3-sided fireplace (electric or gas, still deciding) and surround it with some wall panels to create a modern yet cozy vibe.
I'm not 100% sure how well that would look, so I'd love feedback on:

Do you think the fireplace + panel combo would work?
Any wall paneling styles or materials you recommend?
What color palette would go well with dark wood floors
Bonus if we also have some kind of seating. I do have a baseboard heating in the corner next to window that I can’t get rid off unfortunately
Open to DIY-friendly ideas, feature wall suggestions, or even photos of something similar you've done or seen!
Thanks in advance šŸ™Œ

Do this think something like this will look good ? I lap plan on changing the furniture so it doesn’t have to go with it! Thank you!

So many ideas... is this a DIY project?

I would not do a three sided fireplace, keep if as close to the wall as possible for optimal seating options.

Thank you for replying, these are beautiful. We have a handy man you can do some of the ideas. The
only problem I see with some of the ideas is how to keep the baseboard heating intact in the corner. If we go with a wall to wall design, we will have to remove the baseboard which we don’t want to do.

Are you planning to remove the picture frame and crown molding (traditional style) and remove the barn doors (farmhouse style) before adding a modern fireplace/accent paneling wall (modern style)? All new furnishings and rug (current rug is far too small)?

Your inspiration pics are nice if the house as a whole can support a very modern look. I think accent walls on one wall are fast becoming passƩ due to the overuse by TikTok DIYers so I'd rather see a linear fireplace with shelving rather than an expanse of slats that don't relate to anything else in the space.

Good questions and observations. I am not planning to remove the barn door but all the current furniture, carpet etc will go. Regarding crown molding, I am not planning to remove that for the room but if a design needs part of crown molding to be removed to fit a fireplace or wall panel, I will remove. Can you please share some pics of what you had in mind I terms linear fire place and shelving?

any ideas can be worked around the existing baseboard, framing out obstacles is common in most retro fits/remodels.

wall slats, decorative panels, paneling can all be purchased off the rack and fitted to suit, but figuring out the electrical features needs to be done first. including adjusting the positions of the HVAC vents.

Draw out your plans and prepare all the features before you install the beauty items.

We want to keep the HVAC vents in the same position so have to retrofit that too. We have finalized the electrical features needed

    Geez, no three sided fireplace.

Consider using a wall hung media cabinet to avoid the issue of the baseboard heating element.

Lyn Nielson shows linear fireplaces with shelving in her posted photos though Beverly's more simple design of a wall hung console plus TV gets around the baseboard heating issue well and probably suits your traditional space better.

I don't think a modern slat wall matches the style of the crown moulding and the barn door-too many divergent trendy styles in one space. Have you watched TV over a fireplace before? Unless the fireplace is linear and quite low (may not be possible with your style of heating), the TV may be too high for comfortable viewing. I had a TV over a traditional fireplace and removed it since TV viewing should be near eye level when seated.

Please show pics of your whole room. What is across from this wall?

If keeping the trim and molding, then paint it and your walls and ceilings all the same color. Nix the fireplace. Hang a low floating console with TV above it.

It will look like a chaotic mess to keep all of your molding and add a modern wall feature treatment plus fireplace, and cram it into the confines of the radiator limitation.

If this isn't enough trendy bling for you, add some modern sconces or underlighting to the media console.

Use slat wood paneling and some shelving from IKEA.
