I'd do a dark blue that coordinates with the blue of the house. Or a dark-ish green. Nothing too saturated, though...keep the color dark(ish) but muted.

Looks like you have a Rhodo in your front yard. What color are the blooms? We have a blue house and painted the door to match our Japanese Maple. A neighbor has a white house with black shutters and a coral door. They always plant coral impatiens, and it looks fabulous.

If your rhodo's blooms are neon, you could try a toned down version of the same shade.

I think the rhodos bloom a dark pink. We have two small japanese maples in containers that were against the front porch and a big japanese maple in the back and a reddish smoke tree so maybe something in that red family would work? Since the color ended up more blue than gray, I worry red will look patriotic. It does read a little more gray than in these pictures though.

IMO, the pergola, columns, step risers, and the riser at the very bottom also should be white..

Doing that will lessen the impact of all the blue.

Stain the wood steps and porch floor the deep red of the Japanese maples.

Thanks! We considered making all of that white but was worried it would be too much white and would end up getting dirty more quickly. But now that its too much blue for me, maybe thats a good idea. The wood porch will have a reddish cedar stain.

To be honest, I’d love to get rid of the pergola altogether and redo the front porch but that’s for another day. At least the door is easy to repaint so will just have to try a color and see I guess. I find all of these decisions so stressful cause they never look the same as the test sample. We painted the blue on a small section of the house first and it looks so different now. I am sure I’m not the first to experience this! :)

I would try to keep the porch more of a gray brown than a red brown to avoid the red/white/blue look. Like the blue in this picture. I love this yellow door color with a blue house.

I really like a yellow door and was thinking about one when I thought the house color would have more gray and be darker. My husband thinks it would look too eater eggy but I will keep yellow in mind to try out.
