A beautiful formal fireplace like this needs to have the framed artwork hung on the wall, not informally propped up. Remove the other things on the mantle and hearth for a week or two to get a blank slate. Look around your house for two objects 12-16 inches high or so to try out there. A pair of vases with fresh flowers or fresh green plant cuttings would look great in summer. Plan to switch the items in the fall if you'd like to try out a touch of autumn.

Lyn’s suggestions above are remarkably apt. Yes to hanging the art and fewer, lighter, non symmetrical decor items. Do you own anything with a bit of pale pink like the tiles? Maybe that is the color for candles if you can find a soft enough shade— careful, there are a lot of sugar pink and brighter candles out there.

Hang the art, remove the books, ball on far right and keep the vase and candles. Mantels can look best when kept simple.
