I like the siding you have on the house right now. Not a fan of board and batten siding.

I agree with cat_ky, no to the board & baton. Of course the garage will need to tie in so the elevation of the house & garage together should be considered.

Before doing anything to the siding I would definitely plan how you'll be attaching an L-shape garage to the house and how you'll deal with the existing roof line. Do you have a plan to show us?
