Perhaps you can consider a built-in bench with storage in the bench itself.

Great as long as everyone is short I guess . I see no need for the depth but as for decor I think you wait until th house is done to decide what works best there . What part is 6' I see and an angled part of the staircase I assum that is the 6' mark so IMO it will have to wat to see exactly how it looks when finished

No one is going to crawl or duck under the staircase just to put on their shoes. However, it would make an ideal storage area with drawers.

I agree about the depth. I can't see any reason for it either, just hate to waste space. lol

And I also agree no one wants to stoop under the stairs. Maybe it would be more functional as just an indented spot - maybe 20-24" deep with a bench or a couple of stools/poufs?

I love the drawers. Great idea. But we have an elevator across the hall and I do believe there should be a place for someone to sit down if need be.

You could do a bench and have close storage behind it or open like these:

Take advantage of the depth. I would put all cabinets across the back for storage and then have a nice bench in front of it, like the picture above but with doors instead of the open shelves.

Storage from the back of the space to the middle of the space. Bench from the middle to the front of the space.
