Help us redesign our great room

Looking for design advice and renderings for our new living room space! These photos are before the previous owners moved out. Originally this was two separate rooms. We’re going to be recessing the beam that separates the space.

- Fireplace cannot be moved. We’re open to removing the brick, but honestly would prefer to keep some of the brick (I feel it gives a lot of character to the room)

- Open to making the door to the backyard bigger

- TV: Prefer not above fireplace, want TV centered. Open to placement above the fireplace if necessary and if it works

- Planning on having a large TV (most likely 85in)

- Planning on having a large couch as center of the room

- Would like to have a small table or two for gatherings and hanging out

- Would like to have a clear space for a play pen for our baby

- Will be putting down natural wood flooring

- Style: Mid-century modern inspired design

The term great room usually was meant to mean a space for both seating and dining are your plans to do that ?. The play pen is a moveable object not needing an actual permanent place so no real reason to include it in the design.. I need to know if this will be all seating and Tv watching or used also as a DR. If a TV then IMO that goes to the side of the FP where there is no firebox but have no excct measurement for that space so no way to know if big enough for the size of TV you want .The layout as it is in the pics makes no sense to me . I need more info from you As for furniture in the TV space large sofas and chairs are great

How you design the room really depends on what functions it will accommodate. Is this your primary living space? Understand the need for seating, of course. Will there be any eating or will that happen in your dining room? Will you want a bar in the space. Would suggest that you sit down and write a program - a list of functions and the elements needed for those. That will help you organize your thoughts and would certainly help if you hire an architect or interior designer.

Curious why you want things centered in the room rather than having two zones - one for tv and the other for table.

Will this be your main dining area and where is the kitchen in relation to this pic?

Please post a pic with the other rooms included.

Also, if you want to keep the fireplace and brick wall we need exact measurements of where they are located.I don’t understand why you would take on the expense or raising or removing the beam if you are keeping the brick and fireplace which cut the room into two zones anyway.

Thank you everyone for the help so far. There is a seperate dining room that is located on the other side of the foyer. I’m including a photo of the floor plan. This will be our primary living space. My husband is very keen on centering rhe tv, but I think having the space function as two zones will be a better decision
