I have no clue what you are doing or planning. How does not having a sofa have anything to do with kids? You call this a LR in your post but you do not want to use it like a LR Open the windows show the staircase you mention to give us some clue as to possible uses.

This sounds like a bit of a bonus sitting area. I would absolutely great a small cozy reading area with either comfy chairs and a bookshelf or a comfy sofa. The idea of keeping kids out seems odd to me.

Ok FYI didn’t know I needed to be specific, it is a "lounge room" but I don’t want others peoples children in my upstairs area hence stating so, my children are fine. And if I knew what I was planning or doing I wouldn't have posted in the forum .

You need to give enough info that people can help. Why would other people’s children randomly go to this space? Are your children not able to say we don’t play here? How do you want the space to be used? A tv room, a reading area, a conversation area? Think through your wants and post more info to get more help. :)

If you do not put a TV or game council/computer you will repel kids and it won't be an issue. A desk might make it a nice study space.

What is the size of this room? Looks quite small more like a reading nook.

If it isn't visible from downstairs, I would put a treadmill, some other exercise machine and a TV there.

It looks like there are a variety of things that could be done with that space. You could do a console table with artwork on it on one wall, then two chairs on the opposite wall. You could even do 4 swivel chairs around an ottoman. Below are a few images that might help you decorate this blank space of yours.

Another thread said 'reading nooks' were all the rage. I can see a comfy chase, a small table and a some shelving for a small library.

If you get defensive here you will get no help Of course you need to provide info , we do not read minds. If guests cannot tell theit kids to stay out you need better friends . As for how to use the space that is where we need info from you.

If you want a reading nook, perhaps you'd like something in this idea...

What kind of space do you need more of? Do you need another reading nook or lounge space? Do you need more study space?
