Are the light fixtures the only elements that you are changing (except for perhaps the pulls/knob on the cabinets)? It would be helpful if you would post a few photos of light fixtures that you like - it will provide some direction to people.

I like something simple like this. I am also considering it in a brushed nickel. I am not planning on any other updates on the kitchen at this time but open to suggestions on small changes but floor, cabinets and countertops are staying for now.

Showing new lighting in your kitchen as it is but also the kitchen painted in a creamy white should you eventurally need to do more...

Those are some beautiful ideas for the future. I do much prefer a smaller fixture over the table as you show here.

you have really nice natural light at the table end of your room. i think I''d do things like get a large rug/ paint that far wall an accent color/ ..maybe more art on the wall and think about the fixture. The island does not have seating so I'd streamline that fixture ..maybe one of the rectangular styles ..up a little higher? then when that is "fixed ", find a coordinating statement fixture for the table. I guess i see more possibilities at the table end of the room than the island spot. a simpler white backsplash and you can have more transitional kitchen than traditional. Good Luck.

Yes to brushed nickel in here or chrome. Black stands out too much and in a narrow row of lights, it just high lights the narrowness of the space. You need lights that are going to illuminate you space yet disappear visually. I'd ideally go with recessed lighting over your mini island. They will make your space feel so much larger. But if you really want pendents then yes, remove black and go with polished nickel or chrome.

@Meg Bircher …. speaking from personal experience, I wouldn’t go with clear glass fixtures. Made that mistake in our dining room, shows every speck of dust & light is too glaring, for me, even with the dimmer.

Agree about skipping clear glass of any sort. The glass immediately and always looks dusty, and the light bulb lights (even frosted) pierce the eye. Get white glass shades for much nicer diffused lighting/better atmosphere/more comfortable light.
