Beautiful color!

Thanks for sharing. Very nice deep shade of wine red but be aware that it is a color that it develops as the blooms ages so you do not initially get it when the bloom opens; rather it happens when the bloom is "old enough". Kind of like one does not see the magenta shade of color from Vanilla Strawberry when the bloom opens initially. I wonder if it may also need cool overnight temperatures to do its best coloring -like panicle hydrangeas do in the fall-. That may be a problem if it tries to turn wine red just as summer temps happen to be high. I have not seen it for sale in the south so maybe in the spring 2026. Have you seen it physically somewhere? It is rated for zone 4, which few rebloomers are.

@luis_pr I haven't seen it in any of the nurseries in my area. I found out about it from a garden influencer who attended a national garden event.

Will not be released until 2026 and then only on a very limited basis. It is intended to celebrate Monrovia's 100 years in business.

The flowers do indeed open with a deep ruby red coloring and age to almost a blackberry color.

Are all macrophyllas equally vulnerable to volatile temperatures, especially in spring, or is there a chance that this beauty might be hardier?

Has anyone been to Chautauqua in upstate NY? What are all the ruby hydrangeas there?

It seems like Monrovia is rationing Centennial Ruby.

Hee, hee, hee. They put a very nice picture of the blooms in their website and that may have resulted in a lot of iwanttwoofthose! They may have inflated the price too but I do not know for sure.

On the Monrovia website, it says that you have to make $250 online purhases to buy the Centennial Ruby. That is crazy.

The plant is sold out from Monrovia online and won't be available to selected retail garden centers until 4/30. But it is available through Lowe's now, although in a smaller size.

@ gardengal48 (PNW Z8/9), thanks! It never occurred to me to look for it at Lowes.

Post pictures of the various color changes that the blooms go through.

Bad news. I held off buying it waiting for some extra cash and now Lowes is out of stock. Oh well, it was not meant to be.

It will be there next year. Have you seen Heart Throb Hydrangea?

No, it is new to me, but the Heart Throb Hydrangea is very similar.
