In the long run, consider putting the tv where the hall window is now so that your tv and fireplace are both visible from a sofa and chairs grouping. In the short run and as a test, you can put the tv on a console in front of the hall window, with your sofa or tv-watching chairs facing it.

Can you place two identical sofas back to back in the center of the room? One could face the tv and the other faces the fireplace.

You could have a beautiful divider screen that has design on both front and back completely covering the hallway window then tv on console in front of the screen?

Since you want to use the hall window to keep the space more open, you could try out the tv under the hall window to see if keeping (say) the top three quarters would be enough. The bottom quarter or so could be closed off gracefully with reuse of the bottom window sill's finished trim, if a new height works for you. Note that if the hall window hadn't been there when you bought the house, you may not have decided to add one at its location. It can be rewarding to customize the features in a house to accommodate new technology, in this case, a big screen tv.

The second plan that lisedv posted is similar to my suggestion. However, there's too much furniture and you couldn't navigate around the room. If you did a back to back sofa setup, then each seating area could hold maybe 2 chairs each, but not a third sofa. A nice look is to have a console table between the sofas with 2 lamps on it.

I would strongly advice avoid a sectional, for lack of versatility, and THE most useless piece of furniture after that? The loveseat!

You will end with a bulky feeling room, and no way to have a cocktail table in front of that couch. There are many ways to be comfortable watching tv without making the space into a room of overly bulky and usually unattractive seating.

Most if not all rooms look "upholstery heavy" when you plan for more than that!

We have to get past the idea that an everyday "living room/tv room".....is a MEDIA movie room 24/7 or worse, a lumpy mosh pit of over sized sectionals and pop up seating with cup holder and a remote in our hand. I loathe the look, so you may have asked the wrong designer: )

If the fireplace will be such an obvious element just in the way--remove it. Two chairs randomly sitting in front of it just 'cuz is such a function waste. Maybe a small games/puzzle table would make sense but a seating area with backs to the TV does not. No one suggested the TV go to the right of the door . That space is all about the windows so I assume there is a view? I would try Beverly's mock up but I would swap the blue tv? for whatever is to the right of the door.

Remove a fireplace? It's not as if you can wave a magic wand, and poof, it's gone. It's a big messy project and fireplaces add charm to a home even if you don't use them.

Perhaps having the two sofas facing each other the other way, turning this 90 degrees, in the middle. Then entering from hall of course, two swivel recliners on left for fireplace and two on right for tv. Drink tables between each set of recliners and nice large coffee table between sofas. Sofa tables could be behind both sofas with lamps, if you may. You have plenty of room for any placement. It just needs to work for both sides of your space. One huge rug centered with all front legs on. This could work for fireplace and tv and conversation.

Fireplaces are over romanticized. Sure one could put a chair on a swivel so the person sitting there turns and what? Yells across the room across the back of people having a conversation???? FUNCTION ought to lead. It looks cute and one might think people sit infront of a roaring fire and have a conversation but do they??? If YOU do then go for it. At best the fireplace and chairs would be underutilized space the way this room is designed. I agree removing a fireplace assuming it's fire burning is not something people do but if not incorporated into the main seating area it's an odd thing in a room.

What is odd about having a dinner/drinks a snack on a tray, and moving to watch your big ass movie! Many times, tv is just "company." It's news, it's background noise, a game hubby is watching that you care not a whit about!. It's on while you're doing something ELSE.

The man doesn't want the tv over the fire. If anything is OVER romanticized, it is the look of big, clunks of furniture in front of an idiot box, people lined up like pigeons on a wire to watch it.......all the while? checking their idiot PHONE!

I sit at my fireplace with a book or puzzles all the time in the winter. It's cozy and comforting. Actually I sit by the fireplace all year round!
