Do you have a photo that shows the entry? The view is stunning. Will your budget cover some pruning of the banana plant or recoating the driveway (looks like asphalt)?

LOL! You nailed the problem. If you squint real hard on the left of the phote, you will see the "gate" where you enter the front porch. That IS how you enter our house from the driveway. Then, on the porch (near center) is the front door. You can see it in this additional picture, taken on the front porch. As you see, the problem is that you you approcah the house from the side, and there is no sense of an "entryway" like most foks have. --We are in St. Thomas, USVI, and I have started hacking away at the bananas.

I see! I think the easy thing is to add a couple of large pots filled with flowers as sentries on either side of the gate. Bougainvillea has thorns but has the right amount of oomph. Plumeria, gardenia or ginger would work. Or annuals. A traditional "welcome" sign in painted wood on the gate might work for you if you like informal. Add a wide colorful entry mat.
