How the morning light comes into my sunroom is a gentle reminder that fall is around the corner. In the meantime, however, I am grilling this holiday weekend, going to a city festival, and still wearing my fun summer strappy dresses. I won't even make eye contact with the flannel in my closet.

eta, Mtn, a nearby sweet shop had a sidewalk sign advertising its chai-flavored Italian ice. Criminal.

Its not here in my area. We usually have very warm temps well into September. I have not even seen pumpkins, etc. for sale yet. Halloween candy yes, but no pumpkins. 🎃

Summer is def not over here, but it’s still a good time to plan for ……things. And listen to any new holiday albums you may have missed last year to decide if they are worthy of adding to your Ch****mas playlist. It’s already 72 hours long but great new songs —or great new covers of old songs—- are always welcome !

I am absolutely ready for 100 degree temps to fade and to see some reasonable rain, but I hope we haven't had our last good watermelon. I can wait for pumpkin. I still have some in the freezer.

For the week of T, we have booked a condo at our favorite ski area. There will likely be no skiing, but no one wants to hang around and do the traditional stuff. THERE WILL BE NO COOKING‼️ We are all turning into curmudgeons!

btw, I cannot abide the spice that shall not be mentioned or the fruit/vegetable/gourd it is allegedly made for.

Bath and Body Works has all the Halloween and Fall Scents on sale. Guessing they have to make room for Christmas!

To be honest, although neither of us like pumpkin spice anything, we eat pumpkin pie throughout the year. I was never a fan of pumpkin pie because we never got beyond Mrs. Smith's growing up and I don't like that kind type of sweetness. But my SO has an old family recipe that is different from any other pumpkin pie I have eaten: not as sweet or custard-y, slightly savory. We had one this month already. This pie has converted some people.

September here on the coast can be one of our nicer, warmer months (if we only had a couple more hours of daylight). This had better be a typical year because I really need more summer!

I am not at all a Fall person.

Every year the first thread I see about 🎄THAT🎄 holiday is my annual reminder to skedaddle till after the new year! As for the up-coming barrage of PS scented/flavored everything. all I can say is you can't make me partake! Halloween - meh, other than seeing how the grands are dressed. We see no trick or treaters here so the thrill is gone.

The only time I use the "P" spice is in "P" pie or "P" bread. I do not understand the proliferation of "P" coffee, latte, ice cream, milkshakes, lollipops, candles etc. We also enjoy the P pie throughout the year. It's a quick pie and disappears faster than a double crust fruit pie.

Pal - is there a secret ingredient in your SO's recipe? I have tried the no bake versions but was underwhelmed.

We're still breaking heat records and not to rush the summer through but boy do we ever need our fall rains to hit and soon.

I flew home from Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, walking through the airport I saw a sign announcing that Pumpkin Latte had arrived that day. Although I am not really ready for fall, I jumped in line to get a piece of pumpkin bread for my flight. Love pumpkin bread.

Okay, this is the first time it’s occurred to me that I can have pumpkin pie during months that don’t begin with ”N.” Seriously. I am a dope. It’s like fudge — in my mind, it exists only in coastal summer vacation spots or at Christmas. Salt water taffy — summer only. Funny the associations we have (or is it just me?).

I do allow myself one P.S. Latte once a year, but it has be sweater weather first.

I really want pumpkin pie right now. 🎃

At this point in time all I’m looking forward to is cooler weather to enjoy sitting outside on our porches or in my garden!!!

So Cal typically has a when-will-it-be-over heat wave around the first week of September.

The return to school was hades back before budgets expanded for schools to have air conditioning.

Late September - October is some of our nicest weather. Even well into November. Unless there are Santa Ana winds.

Pal - beautiful pie! At some point could you consider posting your savory P pie recipe? Maybe in another month as to be less offensive....II'm always surprised and dismayed to see the earlier and earlier candy and decorations show up in stores. I'm old enough to remember when it was not a heavily commercialized holiday. And then the giant skeletons electronic or not in stores and yards - some left up all year...........

Stopped in at a TJMaxx/Home Goods yesterday ... full of fall and Halloween decorations. It should be illegal, specially in warm climates! ;-)

I had to turn on the AC yesterday for the first time all year. We've had a cool summer in my neck of the country. But the past few days it's been hot... yesterday reached 93.

Pumpkins should just be for carving by kids and for dogs with tummy issues ... any other use should be illegal! I also dislike anything pumpkin, except roasted pumpkin seeds, which I don't mind!

We still want to go to some outdoor concerts here so not ready to give that up yet. Need nice weather. They can schedule here well into October for outdoor shows. . Had good weather but not really shorts weather for System of a Down in Chicago this weekend. I wore my garden skulls leggings and brought a black cardigan, which was totally fine. We were in the sun when we got there so fairly warm especially after walking to the stadium.

Sorry but I love fall and festively decorating. I also love all the mercury glass look items. Today those worlds crashed at Aldi's!!

Those of you who think pumpkin is only for kids to be carving need to branch out. I haven't bought a jack-o'-lantern pumpkin in many years and rarely any canned pumpkin (which can be other winter squash). I usually buy fairytale or Cinderella pumpkins, do not carve them, but cook them after displaying and freeze what I do not use at the time -- pureed or in cubes. The flavor and texture of those c=varieties is so much better that either canned pumpkin or a jack-o'-lantern type (stringy - yuk). I know someone who swears by Blue Hubbard squash also. You can use the cubes anywhere you would use butternut squash and the puree is great in pasta sauce, soup, as well as baked goods -- and its a healthy treat for dogs.

Somebody I follow on IG was storing away their pool furniture. On Aug 29th! In Oklahoma! WHY????

I despise everything pumpkin flavored. Yuck. Why in the world would one want their coffee to taste like pumpkin? I will never understand. But then I don't get any flavored coffee. I want my coffee to taste like coffee.

I do love Thanksgiving. My favorite holiday. And I do prepare early (thank goodness for freezers). But not this early! I start next month. But there is never a pumpkin pie on my dessert table unless someone brings one. And nobody brings dessert since I make 8-10 different desserts.

It's been chilly in the mornings here in Chicagoland, but it will be sunny and in the 70s this coming week. Next weekend looks to be very nice, too. It's homecoming week for the local high school, and my street is on their parade route. I'm glad the weather will be nice for them.

I was at Trader Joe's the other day, and an employee noticed what was in my cart, and asked, "Nothing pumpkin?" Nope. Too early for that.

It was 90ish yesterday, but cooler/raining today. We are supposed to stay from 80 - 85 this coming week. September = summer, October = fall! LOL!! The owner at the produce market I frequent said no pumpkins until this coming week or next. I will admit that I have been on Etsy looking at Fall wreaths. : ) ANNNDDDDD - I can sign in again!
