WOW! I loved the Wizard of Oz! I can't imagine being color blind to any extent - much less being very color blind. I bet that was an odd discovery for him when he found out her skin was green after so many years!

One of my favorite movies and I love to spot echoes of it in books and other movies.

So I’m curious, can he tell the difference between Kansas and Oz? (I read that the scene where Dorothy opens the door and sees Oz, the entire scene is in color, but the house interior is painted to look like it’s black-and-white and Dorothy and her dress, too.)

bpath - He can tell there is a difference but I believe it's because the Kansas items are muted and the Oz items are brighter and there is more contrast between the dark and light things. It took me forever to figure out how to explain that!

Have you seen the glasses that colorblind people can get to let them see colors? I've seen a few videos of kids being given the glasses and the emotion is just so touching.

Oly, we talked about them when they first came out. He was intrigued but not eager. They were also very expensive, I'm sure they have come down in price though.

I saw Wizard of Oz is showing at the Sphere in Las Vegas. That would be fun to experience that.

A friend is going to that show in the new year, huge fan.

The Wizard of Oz is one of my top 5 movies of all time. Back in the day when my daughter was young and VCRs were new, I recorded it when it was shown on tv, editing out commercials as best I could. We watched it nearly once a week for quite a while. I have lost count how many times I've seen it (along with The Sound of Music, another Bunny recording). It's full of wisdom.

That show in the Sphere looks so cool with all the special effects, but man the tickets are outrageous!!!

straitlover, It looks like the Wizard of Oz replaced the Postcard from Earth movie that they used to show on days that they didn't have concerts or events and that started at $120! I have a few friends who have seen concerts there, which are very pricey, and they raved about the experience.

I grew up looking forward to the annual showing of The Wizard of OZ, Cinderella, Sound of Music. I can't fathom anyone having not seen it. I learned in adulthood the movie version is but a small part of the volumes written by Frank Baum. Never came across the book in childhood. Sort of like the story of the making of Mary Poppins...the author was sooo protective of her character. I would never have known any of it existed w/o the movie. The scene mentioned above was the world's introduction into color movies. It begins in black and white and suddenly OZ is in color. Lots of colors all so amazing my guess is that is why the witch being green does not scream at people. I would not have been able to answer your husband's question just from recall of the movie and I've seen it many many times, own a VCR tape of it. Wicked makes a thing of the witch being green, points it out. It's never part of the conversation in The Wizard of Oz.

Love rhe Wizard of Oz. It was a family favorite for us too. I can just imagine how your DH would feel about his ’discovery’ after all this time. Oh, the little things we take for granted. The play Wicked is one of my favorites, but I still have not seen the movie. I think it’s this feeling I will be disappointed in it. Need to add that to the list and watch it.

Outside, I was also indifferent about seeing the new movie. Too much hype around it! DH and I both enjoyed it. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were really great in it.

My mother saw the Wizard of Oz in the movie theater when it was released and talked about how amazing it was to see color on the screen for the first time.

I was terrified of the movie as a kid! Kind of like Bambi, or The Sound of Music, it starts off sweet and turns dark. I like it now, though.

Did anyone see The Wiz? I saw the first tour, it blew me away! Wow!

Some years ago I read a couple of the Oz series, and kind of like HCAndersen, they seem, well, odd.

I have been to the Sphere. It was beyond amazing. Worth every penny. Best concert experience of my life.

Dead & Company. I am not your typical dead head (😄) - but their music speaks straight to my soul. Combine the most crystal clear music I have very literally ever heard with visuals that left my jaw hanging and it was a magical night. What Sphere must do with that tornado scene from Oz would be worth the price of admission alone.
