Flooring design dilemma

I’m in the process of selecting wood flooring to replace all the carpet in my house. My dilemma is, this flooring will butt up against some wood look tile that we had installed 10 years ago. We aren’t exactly interested in putting wood in our kitchen and bathrooms or replacing. Wondering if it would be better to choose wood that looks deliberately different, so it looks intentional OR try our best to match the color so it looks as seamless as possible. I’d even welcome suggestions on interesting threshold ideas between rooms. Help!

Hardwood floor will be a definite improvement over carpet. You can always add throw rugs in if you find you need some soft surfaces.

Do you have any samples of the wood look tiles that you've got installed already? I'd take one or two of them shopping with you. There is some colour variation in what you've shown.

Maybe choose a floor that is close in colour to the lightest colour in the tile. And I'd try to match the width as well. Your kitchen tile looks like it may be 5-6 inches wide. There is lots and lots of choice out there in wood flooring, colour, species, width and finish. Go to a reputable flooring place that has lots of samples to look at (don't go to big box - they don't have enough choice and their stock tends to be lower end flooring).

For thresholds, if the wood doesn't match at all, I'd consider some wide stone thresholds between the tile and the new flooring. Stone thresholds come in many, many colours.

But if you find a wooden flooring that comes close in colour to your tile, you may be able to get matching threshold pieces.

There are also metal threshold pieces. They tend not to be very wide and IMO often look a little cheap.

A good flooring store will be able to help you.

Thank you so much for responding! I meant to post one more photo, as I did go to a flooring store to get a few samples. And I agree, metal thresholds for transition is not what I’m going for. 🙂. I just don’t want to put something down that’s just gonna look weird.

Hmmmm.....difficult to tell because the lighting in the photo is a bit blotchy but I think the one on the right might work well with your tile.

Also, regarding stone thresholds....MSI Thresholds - check out this link to see many colours available. Check with the flooring supplier for threshold options to match the flooring you choose. Also they sell unfinished wood threshold pieces in many profiles and you can stain it to match the flooring. The flooring store will be able to help you with stain choices as well.

It's always difficult to tell off a computer screen but I agree the sample on the right seems to coordinate with your tile flooring. I would use a wood threshold and stain it the same colour as the flooring.

Thank you so much for responding! I was thinking the right as well. I’m gonna check out a few more flooring stores, but seems like I’m on the right path.
