Kitchen work top

Hi.. We are looking to change our worktop. We currently have a dark wood Iroco but it is very damaged around the sink area so looking to change to a quartz worktop. The question is whaat colour. The floor is dark grey, cupboards are a creamy white and the tiles, tho you can't see it here are a sort of bluey teal. My husband would like a dark black colour for the worktop but it is not a bright room and I think with the dark grey floor it would be too dark. Would appreciate any suggestions on colour. thanks (PS I do love my wood work top so will be sad to see it go. The rest of the room btw is limestone ( we are in Malta)

@susan49417 Hi Susan it is an old Maltese Limestone house, so stone is not moveable. See pic - nicely adds to the challenge :)

you could compromise and get a soapstone quartz.

I love the soapstone look alike quartz that Lyn shows. It's a softer look than black. It's pretty close to the color of your floor. White could also work. Take a drawer or one of your cabinet doors to a quartz showroom if you want to consider whites as they can be tricky to match. Be sure to look at both materials next to each other in daylight as the lighting in showrooms is unlikely to be what you have at home. And/or bring home a sample of some white quartz. Some of the whites have gray in them also. Just avoid the really veiny kinds as that trend is passed.

What is on the ceiling above the cabinets? Is that some type of brick or stone? I would be looking to de-emphasize that or remove to update the space and then decide on countertop.

Was going to ask what in the world is on your ceilings but your last photo explains it. Initial reaction is OMG!! Love the kitchen space! The stone is exquisite!

A limestone house would be amazing!

Cosentino has a line of natural stone (granite and quartzite) that has been treated for extra stain protection (no sealing needed) - 15 year warranty.

They have MANY different lighter stones + ones with gray in them (or mixes of different grays) so that it won't look too dark. However, your wood countertop appears to look fairly dark in the photos - and it's not to dark for the room with the floors. They have some cream/brown ones that would look nice with your limestone. I even saw one that had white/cream/brown/gray in it which would bring in all of your colors.

Nothing wrong with the worktops that couldn't be fixed by changing out the backsplash. What is that?

I think what you have now is waay too dark, so a big NO to black anything. I think I would try and match the lightest of the stone's color. It appears the darkest was matched previously.

The reality is that your backsplash may get damaged during this process. If you don’t have extra blue tiles then you may wish to have a long think about what the overall effect is that you’re going for if the tops and splash need a redo.
